How do you measure framerates while gaming. Is there a program like the 3dmark to do this. Also, is there something in the GPU software to allow you to overclock and once done, does it put undue straing on the GPU or CPU??

For measuring frames i can recommend Fraps - http://www.fraps.com/download.php

Provided that your aksing whether overcloking will put undue stress on GPU/CPU then I I would say that it depends. It puts more stress on the GPU, which will lead to a shorter lifespan, but were talking a lifespan longer than you will probably have the GPU anyway, so that doesn't matter. As long as you're careful it should be quite safe. Nothing should happen to your CPU, other than it might get a bit warmer from the excess GPU heat.

Programs you can use are (for nvidia) Rivatuner (for ati) ATitool

alot of games also have framerate display options in the console ex) cod1/2
    \cg_drawfps 1 or 2 (2 is advanced view)
