I have a Lenovo Ideapad Y560. I was just wondering if it is wise or even safe to overclock a 5730. I heard it was just a higher clocked 5650 so doesn't that mean it is already overclocked?.
Well my laptop has:
Core i7-720QM
4 GB Ram 1333MHz
I dont have the laptop yet, I might order it. I was just wondering if it was possible to overclock it. Since I am on the subject, can I overclock the 720QM too?

I wouldn't try overclocking it. It probably runs hot enough as it is. Sucks that you haven't received yours yet because I really wanted to ask you if you're experiencing any of the display problems that many other users are experiencing with that model? Link

Its not that bid of an issue. You can only see it when you look closely. Also the fix is just to change it to 16 bit. Also the bios update should fix it right ( just saying I didn't order it yet )

Hopefully. I was thinking of getting one myself till I stumbled on that thread.

Check temps using Furmark. If they're not alarming, try to overclock. I have 5870 and I overclocked it from 700 to 800MHz (but I also undervolted it at the same time, from 1,15V to 1,03V). It runs cool, even while overclocked (I should also mention that I've done some modding of the cooling system in my laptop, like copper mod and additional holes in the bottom cover for improved airflow).

The 5830 runs ok at 535/1100 on my Envy, but any higher and it crashes.

Didn't the OP ask about the 5730?

Why dont you wait until you get the system and then play some games on it. You might find its fast enough without overclocking.

Also, OP:
I had the same problem. Generally, a laptop with core i7-720 runs quite hot (in a 15" notebook); so overclock if temps permitting, as suggested by Marecki_clf. -
