Overvolting helps achieve higher frequencies and stability; it does not directly impact your FPS. For instance, I get artifacts with 950Mhz core on my 560M GTX, but with an overvolt I might be able to achieve 1Ghz and be stable. This is not a guarantee though.

My 560M GTX is unable to overvolt, so I'm willing to bet your 460M GTX is no different. The 570M GTX is able to overvolt .02V more and reach performance levels similar to the 580M GTX through higher frequencies.

^ Just out of curiosity, wouldn't higher core speeds (by like 10% ish) mean higher fps?

Yes........? But what if you get tearing/artifacting because you cannot stably run at 10% more core? Then an overvolt would be necessary to achieve those higher clocks.

Oh like that. So to get no artifacts at a certain speed you overvolt. Is it possible to reach higher speeds by overvolting than possible at stock?

Dude, seriously, read my first post about my 560M GTX. I'm not going to re-explain what I had just said 5 minutes ago.

*IGNORING*. Does anyone else know if the slider opens up more room on the right in say MSI Afterburner after overclocking? Or what clocks you can set as max on stock voltage are it and overvolting only allows to remove artifacting, if any? If that is true then overovlting will not help OP as he is already at max.

The 460m can be overvolted to 560m levels iirc, you need to modify the vbios using svet tool or mvktech.nets one.
