How to use MSI Afterburner OSD
    MSI Gaming
Streamed live on Apr 25, 2018
Join us today to learn the secrets of Afterburner OSD and how to use them to get a better gaming experience!

MSI Afterburner works on many / most Nvidia and AMD GPU's to some extent, OSD is one of those along with RTSS Frame limiter, the OC tuning works for many, but is limited by what the board maker allows.

The video's Comments and Chat text has interesting info too.

I give double thumbs up on this program. It gives me a sense of comfort seeing it running on the upper left side of my pc while gaming. I can see what my stuff is doing. It works on almost all of my games. Destiny 2 no :(

It turns out using MSI AB + RTSS is ok in Destiny 2, per Bungie response:

"We did not (and will not) issue any bans for the use of overlays or performance tools, including Discord, Xsplit, OBS, RTSS, etc."
    https://www.bungie.net/en/Help/Article/46101
    https://www.bungie.net/en/News/Article/46426

So, maybe it is just OSD technical settings to fix display on Destiny 2, it happens on some games that the defaults don't work.
I was doing a quick search to find the settings for MSI AB that would work for Destiny 2, assuming it was a technical settings change, and found this on the Destiny 2 Reddit:

    Clarification on MSI Afterburner Bans

"You can use msi afterburner or for example EVGA precision and wont get banned. The reasom people get banned is becuase they use RTSS in MSI to show an on screen display (an overlay). Do not have this activitated and you should be good.

If anyone finds any counter claim to this, be sure to say as this is just from my experience and the article from Bungie, and i quote "Hardware performance monitors will be able to function alongside Destiny 2 PC, but any form of overlay functionality will be restricted. "."

Is it simply the game detects a software overlap that triggers your game as "cheating" in the cases outside of this application?
