Sorry. Found the guide. Now I'll rephrase to any suggestions on those of you who have the 8600M GT?

Main reason why I want to OC is because it seems as if in some games (FS9 in particular) my FPS arent as good as they should be.

    A faster processor should help.

I was told on here that the T7100 should be fine for gaming... thats why I ordered it?
    UPDATE:
Just ran 3DMark 06, only got 2100! Isnt this rather low for the 8600M GT?

I previously had a 174 driver. I'm rolling back to 169.04. For those of you with an 8600M GT, what is your preference with drivers?

Getting a 2k 3dmark sounds like you might be on "PowerSaver" or something like that?

Well on a t7500 2.2ghz with 8600gt ddr3 plp usually get around 4000 3d marks. And it fluxuate to as low as 3800. Im guessing your 8600gt is ddr2 and with a slower processor you should still get close to 3000. Can you put up a link to your 3d mark scores?

Hmmm what makes someone look worse? Posting a thread about a question that has been asked many many times? Or someone not reading the thread and just posting links to the threads that the OP found and even posted this and appoligized?

Hmmmm, you be the judge.... :)

You are the one that doesn't read the thread.

If you read carefully, the OP said that he found "the guide" (whatever guide that may be) and then asked about overclocking in relation to the 8600M GT in his Vostro 1500. Since the OP didn't specify what overclocking guide he found, I linked Leon's guide because he did his overclocking on his Dell 1520 (which has the same 8600M GT as the Vostro 1500).

The other two links show the in-game performance of the 8600M GT before and after overclocking, which may (or may not) be useful to the OP, but I threw them in there just in case.

I have them bookmarked because they're both very useful posts. :)

Good luck with the overclocking, but IMO it's not a good idea to overclock a laptop gpu with the overheating problems that might result.

Ive reverted back to 169.09 and 3Dmark cannot even complete the run because the driver stops working in the middle of the application.

Yes he has a much slower processor and only a GDDR2 so im not surprised that he is only getting 2100, but that is kinda low.. Maybe a processor upgrade to a Penryn?

When I ordered it last summer, I was told a 1.8 would be fine. Nonetheless, I should be getting over 2100. Any suggestions?

A 2100 in Vantage would be accurate. But 2100 in 3DMark06 is 50% lower. Something you can do if you still can't figure out the problem is reformat. That might help.

I'm going to go ahead and reformat. I'll revert back to 169.04 when the installation complete. Anyone have any other suggestions (driver wise?)

I say the official Dell drivers (174.31). Say your computer is a Inspiron 1520 to get them.

Good news! After reformatting and using those drivers from dell, I got 3115 at factory settings and 4250 at a 600/475 Overclock! Thanks for your help.
