Hello. I am really eager to play planetside 2. I would be really happy to be able to play fluently on low-medium settings. I'm learning more about how to judge a computer by its specs but I would feel more confident if I could get second opinions. How would people rate this system?
Lenovo Z580
3rd generation Intel Core i5-3210M Processor( 2.50GHz 1600MHz 3MB)
NVIDIA GeForce GT635M 1GB
8.0GB PC3-12800 DDR3 SDRAM 1600 MHz
It's pretty much the best I can get for my budget of £550 although I might be prepared to go to £700. I would much prefer a laptop as I value the mobility for the lan parties I go to.
If anyone has any experience with this laptop please share your thoughts with me.

My bad I forgot to mention that I don't currently own the laptop.

What 635M is it? I need to know.
But here: NVIDIA GeForce GT 635M - Notebookcheck.net Tech -
I'm sorry but I'm not sure what I'm supposed to tell you or how to find that out. If you are referring to which version then I can't find that out as far as I know. Thank you though.
-
Oh there's a DDR3 version with 192 bit and 128 bit
then there's the GDDR5 version with 192 bit and 128 bit..
4 versions basically
-
Well on notebook check it says that the version used in other lenovos is as followed : 96 cores 753MHz, 128Bit GDDR5 .
-
Well either way you can run it, you definitely go beyond the minimum requirements
not the recommended ones though, but you should be fine

I just get so confused reading different things from different sources , just really want to know how well this laptop could run planetside 2 roughly. They have a slightly more expensive version with an i7-3520M and the same gpu but with 2gb instead of 1gb but I don't know i this would even make a difference. I'm not looking to play to a high standard , just fluently in low/medium settings.
Thank you very much for your help. -
That upgrade won't make a noticeable difference in gaming performance, since it's not the amount of GPU RAM that's bottlenecking performance.
-
So if not the gpu getting this better version for the better processor might be worthwhile? I've read that for most gaming that i7's are probably not worth it or make minimal difference. I know so little
-
Well the i7 will make a difference, especially in Planetside 2, but that will give you a slight advantage. Just stick with your current build
-
I've read plenty of good things about the z580 so I'm sure I'll be happy with it but I'm gonna keep my eye out a little while longer , lots of stuff coming down in price this time of year.

good thinking, if you're willing to wait a few more months the next round of intel cpus (Haswell) and gpus from AMD and Nvidia will offer better performance for the price. If you don't want to wait that long, then there are sure to be some good deals this time of year. -
635m sounds like a rebadged 555m. I'd say it would run at 720p with low-medium settings just fine.
-
I've only played the beta on my MSI GE60, but in 1080p and med-high (later set down to med) settings it couldn't reliably maintain 30+ FPS in battles. Maybe the final version is somewhat better optimised, but if I were you I'd look around for other models which fit in your budget and try to squeeze a better GPU in.

The laptop will run planetside 2, roughly. The i7 and extra GPU memory wont make a difference. To get an improvement, you want a faster clocked i5 and a faster GPU. It can definitely run planetside 2 in low settings. Whether or not it will run fluently depends on your frame rate and resolution expectations. There are definitely going to be a range of situations where the laptop will chug along at 10-15 fps in Planetside 2, because the game is a hog. It takes a very high end computer to avoid that type of performance altogether in this particular game.
How well can I run planetside 2?
