OK so let me know how u guys think this will run OB...

    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T5250 (2MB cache/1.5GHz/667Mhz FSB)

    2.5 GB RAM

    Vista premium

    8600M GT GDDR3

    120 gb HDD @ 5400

    1280 X 800 screen res

SO how do u guys think that'll run it...and do u think upgrading the processor to a Intel C2D T7250 (basically the same just running @ 2ghz) would make a noticable difference in every day use and in OB?

    PS: I'm looking at a XPS M1530

Should run excellent with high textures, distance buildings, and most features like 50%.

Oblivion is very CPU hungry since it constantly running game scripts in the background.

I read a while back a article on cpu`s and noticed CPU does have a impact on Oblivion.

    http://anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=2808&p=13

T7250 Since it has 4MB of cache over the T5250 2MB of cache it should be a fair bit faster. If it isn`t too expensive then yeah i would get the T7250.

You should be able to run it on high. I think I was running it at high without AA/AF on my G1s (which had similar specs and same GPU) @ 1680x1050.

at your res, you should be able to run that game on high, just get at least a 1.8 to 2.0 GHz dual core CPU.

1.5 seems a little weak for a core 2 duo. From my understanding oblivion doesn't take full advantage of both cores.

Shouldn't this be in the other thread?

no...i'm not asking if the computer will run a game...i already know it will run...i'm asking for processor advice mostly

I'm still saying 1.5 seems a little weak. Would it be possible to get a faster CPU?

    ya...$50 for 1.66 and $100 for 2.0

but the thing is that shoots me out of my price range (dam taxes)

If it's Oblibion and only Oblivion what you will play, then the processor is fine. If you plan to play more modern games (which your graphics card and amount of RAM can allow easily) then I would at least get the 1.8 Core2Duo. At the end is your decision.

ya...so wut i'm wondering is if i rly needa upgrade the CPU with just the gain of .5ghz...cause it wont make much difference in surfing and excel will it...?
and also i would assume that the CPU will be bottlenecked by the 8600 GT already so upgrading it wouldnt rly help...is that a correct assumption...?

No, there would be good gains seen by clocking any Core 2 CPU (with 2mb of cache or more) up by 500mhz.

It might be possible with Clockgen or SetFSB.

always get the best that your budget allows.
personally i wouldnt make a new buy that is under 2ghz... but if all your doing is playing oblivion, then maybe that would be fine?
i used to play oblivion with a 1.8ghz single core on pc fine, not sure how oblivion uses dualcores though, i dont think it takes advantage of them.

If your planning on gaming then I would definitely go for the 2.0 Ghz Core 2 Duo if you plan to be gaming. It always helps to have that extra bit of power for the running of intensive programs and many scripts. How exactly are you configuring the 2GB of RAM? Would it be possible to request a 1GB SO-DIMM then upgrade to 2GB later? This option can prove to be quite a bit cheaper.
