Check that thread out. From what I know it will run on low/med settings with those games.

How well do u think your compaq will run Doom 3 as i will be getting a similar system to yours
-
I think it will run it at least as well as Far Cry, so I'd say med settings and some low with 1280X800 screen. Whenever a demo is out I will try it, I thought someone mentioned a demo recently though so if its out I'll do it and let you know

512MB vid card for ulta high detail (no tex compression)
???MB vid card for high detail (some tex compression)
128MB vid card for medium detail (normal tex compression)
Just read an artical posted by a dev at www.ign.com yesterday, look it up there.

Hello,
Could you tell me what games will run at a middle quality (playable quality) on such notebook:
HP nc6000
Pentium M 1.8
512MB RAM
Mobility Radeon 9600 64MB
60GB 5400 RPM HDD
I'm talking about such games like: Splinter Cell, HL2, DOOM3, Serious Sam2, Far Cry and other newer games.
Also car simulation games: newest Need for Speed, Colin McRae Rally etc.
I meen all these very popular games.

REQUIREMENTS:
DX 9.0 compatible 3D card w/ 64MB RAM*
MS Windows 2000/XP
Pentium 4 1.5 GHz or Athlon XP 1500+
384 MB RAM
8x CD-ROM
2.2 GB of HD space
Broadband (for multiplayer)
*Supported 3D Graphics chipsets:
ATI: Radeon 8500, 9000, 9200, 9500, 9600, 9700, 9800
NVIDIA: GeForce 3, GeForce 4MX, GeForce 4 Titanium, GeForce FX, GeForce
These are the listed minimum requirements for doom3, and even at the minimum stats doom3 looks GOOOOOD! Low quality is barely discernable from the highest, you'll only miss it if you see the difference firsthand, otherwise doom looks great.
Check out the differences at www2.hardocp.com.
You will get close to the full experience even with 64MB vid card and 512 ram including shadows and bump mapping.
cant wait! [8D]

I use the MR9600 64M and it runs great at the lower resolutions at up to 1024x768. Ultra mode is pretty much out of the question. It's ok, though, because even the low rez textures look outstanding.

I am afraid to even buy Doom 3, i just got a feeling im not going to be impressed with how it will run on my cpu.
Inspiron 9100- 3.2ghz P4 HT - 1gb RAM - 100GB HD - 4x dvd/cd burner -128mb ATI 9700. -
your CPU is defintly not going to limit you at all. Now your ATI 9700 is what will determine how high you can go but remeber that is the best GPU out for notebooks right now, the ATI 9800 is just coming out for the mobile market so if your worried about how it will look I think you will be in much better shape then 90% of the other mobile users. Look at my spec's below yours how me beat on everything and I think the game looks great.

I have this exact set-up and it runs great! Just stick to mid level resoluation and high quality, rarely dips below 30fps through the whole game.
oh yea, install omega drivers, need them for this game or it crashes at first cut scene, but they work perfectly.
How well would these GPU's run doom 3
