no notebook can make gfx like a 360 because a 360 is made for gaming. This is a great notebook to play those games at fairly nice settings, but the 360 will always look better unless you have a $3000+ desktop

overall? close. the 8600m gt and the xbox 360 have comparable enough gpu power that the developer's interest and focus on one platform over the other will matter more than the rendering power of the machine.

quake 4 and prey will play faster on the PC.

oblivion will probably play faster on the xbox, and FEAR is a toss up. i might guess a tie.

    (disagree with above poster)

keep in mind quake 4, prey, and FEAR were made for the PC, and then ported to the xbox.

oblivion was made for the xbox and ported to the PC.

there is definitely a correlation between intended original platform and performance on that platform vs others.

At the resolution of 720p, assuming you were using an HDTV, I want to say the PC would be almost as good but with some slight hiccups. The 8600m GT is really more of a 15.4" notebook card.

If you want better performing, better off waiting or looking for a an 8700m GT

And he is a little biast or crazy. My desktop, which cost around 1800$ or so including speakers, monitor, mouse/keyboard, headphones/mic kills the 360. Considering you need an HDTV, and let me tell you a crummy HDTV doesn't cut it, I know because I have one. so about 1400$ for a quality, more ilke 1600$ if you want some good speakers, for a nice nice 360 setup.

Of course that is based on my experiences and opinions.

quake 4, specifically, did not translate well to the xbox. if i recall correctly, the texture resolution was cut way down, there were still slowdowns... thats at 720p.

on your laptop, you will be able to play at 1440x900 with all settings on high, and the frame rate will stay high even in intense combat.

the same is true of prey. even if prey on the xbox 360 runs better than quake 4, you can still only run it (at best) maxed out at 720p. assuming they fixed the muddy texture problem. on your laptop, you can max it out at 1440x900 (that resolution would be just a hair higher than 900p, were there such a thing in HDTV land)

im calling FEAR a tie because however well FEAR plays on the xbox, it also plays fine maxed out in 1280x800 on the 8600m gt. (again a slightly higher resolution on the laptop than your xbox can play). although i can't verify that the xbox port of fear is a good one, or that it uses as high settings as you would choose on the pc for 1280x800.

for oblivion, i don't know how the xbox version looks compared to the pc (is it all maxed out settings, or generally high? i dont know for sure) but i would assume it would run better on the xbox.

I believe on the 360 it runs of courss with no AF I want to say no HDR; Bloom instead, 4xAA, and otherwise max settings.

well i don't know how well the 8600m gt handles oblivion, so im giving that point to the xbox360 on faith just to be conservative.
