Im now thinking about gettin the Acer TravelMate TM4674. It has 2gb of ram, and the ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 vid card. Will this notebook be able to play games like cod 2, wow, bf2, and other similair games?
Thanks
-
Yeah it should, the x1600 is a high performance dedicated gpu
-
yeah you won't have a problem with any of those. my x300 runs those just fine.
-
u have a pretty good laptop and that 2gb of ram is a nice touch u wont have any trouble playing most games
-
You'll be able to run most games on med-high. That's applicable especially to BF2. The X1600 is a performance chip, not the best better much better than the mainstream or low-end.
Good luck, Daniel out -
If you can wait a day or two I can post up some FRAPS results and such for you, I ordered that exact same laptop on newegg the other day, Acer travelmate with 2.0ghz core, 2gb rams, x1600, and 120 gig HD right? if it's the same model I'll give ya some feedback man.
-
that would be cool -
It will be able to play the games you want. Just keep in mind though that it's a 128 MB GPU in there.
-
Fortunately enough for most mobile cards the real bottle neck is speed, and not in fact memory. Also, the fact that you have a full two gigs of ram to work with helps when the card decides to expand itself up to 512mb of video useage.
EDIT: Just got here, gonna load some stuff up, install 3dmark n' such and post some benchies -
Hate to double post, but I want my friend who may be picking this up to know it's a great rig, got 2,601 3dmark05, and 1480 3dmark06, which is a great score compared to those computer shown in the thread about 3dmark05 scores. I realize it's a 15.4" so it's not directly comparable with a 17", but still it's remarkably powerful for what it is. After a smidge of tweaking I can run psychonauts (A GORGEOUS game, if you haven't played it, do yourself a favor and pick up a copy, bargain on ebay for 20 bucks) as 1280x800, and it looks just phenominal, I'm glad this computer can do justice to the games I wanna play. Next up I'll be testing out BF2, trust me I'd have it all scoped out now, but my USB mouse isn't getting here for two days, so I don't wanna pain myself by starting it up with no way to play!
-
thanks aksama, if you dont mind posting some bf2 screenies when you get your mouse that would be great! Ill prob be ordering this laptop soon.
-
It will play most games on high settings. Some will be med-high...
-
All I can say is WOW, I just ran BF2 (singleplayer mind you) and got three enemies on my screen, killed two (stupid bots, haha) died, and did it all while above 45FPS, on HIGH SETTINGS baby... I was very impressed, unfortunately it doesn't support 1280x800 resolution, but maybe we could find something to rectify that somewhere, but nonetheless, at 1024x768 @ 60hz, BF2 was sitting pretty at maxed setting (No AA n' such though, I'll try that later) This rig is siiiiick baby.
4x AA and I'm down to 43FPS during combat (I didn't know there was an option to go up to 6, so I'm trying that now, to see what happens)
This game looks just phenominal, unbelievable power... -
can you post some screens?
-
There ya go man, at these settings I've run nothing but 42fps+ (that is, the lowest I've generally gotten has been 42, even with 3 bots on screen firing at each other)
1024x768 resolution, I don't think I'm gonna change it around for 1280x800, it looks beautiful enough, and I don't wanna deal with the stretching, no matter how slight.Attached Files:

thanks a million! everythings looks great

Put a shortcut to BF2 on your desktop
Rickclick and go to properties
Go to shortcut tab
C:\Games\BF2\BF2.exe +menu 1 +widescreen 1 +szx 1680 +szy 1050
^ add that stuff with the resolution you want
It will chop a bit off the top/bottom since it does not truly suport widescreen but it does work. Only open the game through that shortcut though. -
Hey everyone I am thinking about this labtop (waiting for Amazon to get it in stock) and I would like to ask if anyone has had the heating issues with this labtop. Thanks.
-
I've had it for a week, and it gets a little warm (if you're gaming) but other than that, it's not bad at all. There's a vent on the side that may get your hand a little warm if you happen to use your mouse directly next to the laptop. (which is uncomfortable for me) and I've run it for long periods of time, no heating issues, and I've been running BF2, and Psychonauts.
By the way, if you can stand to pay 40 extra bucks, buy it from newegg and get an x1600, I'd say it's worth it. -
Thanks for the reply!
I think I will be able to handle a little warmth.
But the reason I'm waiting on Amazon is... no sales tax. I live in CA and unfortunately, Newegg charges salestax but not Amazon. So I wait...
Hows this notebook with gaming?
