I am not entirely sure where to post this question but this is my guess.

I am playing League of Legends and I get major FPS drops when I play in borderless windowed mode. Around 25-35fps. My laptop is more than capable of handling it. I have looked everywhere for an answer for a solution with no luck. Fullscreen normal runs the game around 120+ FPS

    I am using a Sager P170EM, quad-core 3610QM, 12GB of ram and the 7970m.

Any ideas or answers would be greatly appreciated! I'm stumped.

Not familiar with Sagers, but does it have switchable graphics? Maybe when not in fullscreen, it is getting confused and switching to integrated GPU? Just a guess...

    Try disabling Windows Aero.

So your frame rate is much higher in fullscreen at the same resolution and same settings?

Prob not using the main GPU or sharing too much resources with Windows as when in window mode it shares resources with other programs and things like the Aero interface.

It's a big problem with dual gpu machines most of the time it will only use one card instead of both if not full screen, I can see the same sort of issue happening with hybrid graphics.

This. Running a Classic background will really improve framerates in windowed mode.

Yeah windows Aero forces V-sync which will usually mean either 60 fps or 30 fps.

Thanks for replies. I am running Windows 8 and I don't believe I can disable Aero completely? Also yes, it is switchable graphics. I thought about that but the game is still running the same process in windowed mode so I can't force the dedicated graphics on it when windowed is active (If its not using the dedicated). Still same process as when fullscreen. My thought was the resource management being shared in windowed like ViciousXUSMC said. I haven't played much with the affinity of the process. But at a quick try it didn't affect anything. Also setting priority of the application to realtime didn't change it either. Any ideas?

Maybe switchable graphics is cursed with this. lol
