Okay, so I wanted to improve my performance in Oblivion (among other games) and I decided to install the newest ATI omega drivers. I have a mobility radeon 9700. I followed the instructions in the readme to the letter, and at first I thought the installation had been successful. When I restarted, the resolution was set to 1024x768. My native resolution is 1280x800, and I've become so used to that that anything less looks terrible. Plus, 1024x768 isn't the correct aspect ratio. So I decided to roll back the drivers to get back to the old catalyst ones... same ones that shipped with my PC about 1.5 years ago. Something went wrong, and when I restarted I got a blue screen of death and the computer restarted. I selected "revert to previous settings that worked" at startup, and this time I got to the login screen. However, now something was really messed up, because whenever I tried to play a video or launch any graphics application I got the same BSOD for a split second, and then it restarted. Any suggestions? Last time something like this happened I reformatted and used the utility disk that shipped with my laptop. I would rather not do that again.

    Thanks in advance

Uninstall the video drivers completely, then try to reinstall them.

Why did you not just set your resolution to 1280x800 via display properties after installing the Omega Drivers? Are you on a Mac? If so, did you download the Mac version of Omega Drivers?

it sounds like to me you didnt uninstall the old drivers, and you installed the new drivers over them...uninstall all the video drivers, and reboot, then reinstall the "new" ones that you tried.

also, mac drivers are handled by apple i think..(well i have never seen any drivers for mac that wasnt from apple)

    pb,out.
