So the latest Catalyst & Omega drivers enable hypermemory on X700s. I have a 128MB X700 with 512MB system RAM. Is enabling the option going to do more harm or good. Also, if I increased system memory to 1GB+ would the amount of hypermemory increase from 128MB to 384MB.

Could anybody tell me if this is a beneficial upgrade to make with regard to gaming performance? Or is Hypermemory just marketing gumbo?

I just did a little bit or researching and I was wondering the same thing. But from what I read those drivers are for x700s, not Mobility x700s. So I don't know if they would work or not. That might help a bit if you had any confusion.

I know that I definately have Hypermemory enabled on my MRx700 (latest Omega 3.8.231) since it reports texture memory as 256MB.

HyperMemory is enabled by default on all 64MB - 128MB ATI PCI-express video cards using Catalyst 5.9 or later drivers (Omegas too, etc).

It's dynamically allocated, so it just doesn't hog 128MB for itself right off the bat.

It won't increase performance, but it might smoothen out some more intensive games because instead of storing extra textures and data on the hard drive, HyperMemory will take them and store them in the main memory. Accessing the main memory is far faster than the hard drive.

    Chaz

Good stuff Chaz. What is the limit of Hypermemory, ie where will it stop adding system RAM?

I don't think it will take more than 128MB, so you'll have a total of 256MB shared + dedicated.

Yes but not all games support it... I play America's Army: Operations... when I run out of video memory it doesnt activate Hypermemory...

Did you read the thread? Might want to look through other people's post before you ask a question.
