Nice stuff... I'm just annoyed that I have to overclock my 9600m gt (ddr2 grrr you HP, But it still flies) just to reach the 5k mark, atm I'm happy with my 4400ish at default 06 settings. Untill games start looking (mind you with todays tech things shouldn't look like supcom on minimum anymore, after this point in time, and be optmised more) on it or it struggles I'm not going to need to overclock excessively. I guess that'd up you to around abouts using high on crysis at around 24-28ish fps now, mind you you may need to tweak some small things e.g. shadows etc..

What does "the 8600 GTS spoof" do for the performance of an 8600M?

Apparently, it unlockes some desktop card features that are locked in the mobile cards for whatever reason.

Crysis runs like on this machine. As it was, I was already averaging 26fps in Crysis Warhead on medium, 1280x800.

Yeah, if I had the faster CPU in mine, I'd go even further.

I tried overclocking my CPU but it wouldn't budge without crashing.

    Dox 182.46 (Desktop Drivers)

And yeah, possibly, but the point is that it doesn't hinder performance regardless.

I don't really know the details. Sorry :(

If you read the first post, you'd see that there were physical mods to offset heat (as much as 12c lower temps in some cases)

Isn't the 8600m GT fundamentally the same as the 9700m GT with 32 SP? The 9700m GT comes no-OC at 6500 and can be overclocked 7000+. If not for the laptop's design, you could probably take that GPU a lot further.

I think thats true because I OC mine, which has DDR2 memory to 4700 in 3dmark06 on 1280x1024. So I believe you can get even further with yours. ah, btw. I was on XP.

    Congratz ^_^

Quite an amount of modding you did there so kudos to you for having the initiative to carry all those through :D

Btw, how is your increase in 3dmark06 reflecting in performance of games or such?

Well, I can play anything except for Crysis on this machine at 1280x800 at at least medium settings. I play The Last Remnant on max settings (minus shadows) at that res and I get a steady 30fps (dips on rare occasion).

So I don't feel pressed to upgrade since there's nothing that outdemands my laptop.

That is on a 8600 with DD2 memory is it? because with my DDr3 8600Gt i easily get nearly 6000 with a high overclock.

Nope, its DDR3. The G1S runs too hot to for me to get a stable overclock of higher than 550/900 (core/RAM)

Also, are you running 3DMark06 on all standard settings?

    http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=23613&view=findpost&p=111514

He claims that that mod lets him OC more than he used to be able to, but judging from the temps I'm still getting I don't think it will result in that for me.

I still can't believe that they gimped the 9500M GS with DDR2 memory - I'd have loved to be pulling those kindsa marks.

Unfortunately if you want a better card you have to buy one and spend a little more... DDR3 costs money...

E means Entry. 3DMark Vantage has four different scores that it can output: Entry, Performance, High, and Extreme. Unfortunately, my laptop's display can't handle the 1280x1024 resolution needed to run the Performance settings.

And Mormegil, I wish I could pay more, but a GDDR3 9500M GS doesn't even EXIST. Both companies that used them - Acer & ASUS - only made DDR2 MXM-II cards.
I could go to the 9600M GT GDDR3 if I knew it'd work.

I'm using standart settings on 3dmark06. 5K marks is easily handled for a 8600M GT with DDR3 memory with a light overclock, i don't know why there's so much exitement about it...

6000 marks would be more like a "barrier" for this GPU, though some people have already broken it, but 5k?

The G1S is a notoriously difficult system to work with, so expectations are a bit lower.

    5000 3dmarks with a DDR2 8600m, thats why.
Theres a fair diffence in performance depending on which memory you have.

Did you read the rest of the post you quoted? Namely:
I thought it was DDR2 as well because the GDDR3 cards start out pretty close to 5000 and the challenge there is to OC them to 6000, but apparently the card in question is GDDR3, albeit one in a rather hot laptop.

I seriously can be an asss sometimes :D kind of glossed over the tread,
Considering it is a gddr3 version, then kilador was right (and I shouldn't have posted  )
6000 is kinda the limit for this card, anything higher is more a measure of how powerful your cpu is really.

Are you talking about breaking 5000 at 1280x800 or at 1280x1024? Only a few people with very high overclocks on their 8600M GT are able to break 5000 at 1280x1024. I don't know anyone who has broken 6000 at 1280x1024 either.

Judging from your score of 5600 and your clock speeds, it seems more like you're referring to 1280x800.

    5k at 1280x1024 isn't that hard to get on a 8600m gt ddr3.
