Dirt 2 annoys the out of me...now do understand i am playing with a keyboard....which adds to me hating this but the biggest problem is that I will no crap be in 4th place and come flying across the finish line and it will say i ended up in 8th!!!!! what the heck! On top of that the game has more loading/and crap that you have to wait for.....its dumb i waste more than half my time listening to these stupid drives talk....why can't i push enter or esc to skip their garbage!
-
I know its so annoying to listen to all that crap... but like someone told me, after a few races, they stop doing so, still there should be something like a patch to let u escape any unwanted crap like that...
-
well in rally races the position you get is the time you finish... so you might have just got a 1 sec. past the person behind you or something
-
You just need to practice dude.
I'm in love with the game. The Colin McRae R4 is a beast and I master that car with my keyboard. Impeccable turns at ever corner and I drift like 3 inches away from the walls.
So satisfying. -
After a few times playing it you get used to it. If you're really having problems getting used to it, you could just wait for Dirt 3 which is coming out in 2011 and it suppose to be amazing.
-
I do agree the load times are quite annoying, but I never had any problems with the game, or playing the game and doing well.
And when you mean you will be in 4th, and the suddenly 8th, do you mean the game glitches and puts you in 8th place? Or the other drivers will pass you?
You could try lowering the difficulty (I don't remember if it has one or not), and if it's glitching on you, try re-installing the game and making sure it's up-to-date on it's patches.
*Edit*
On a side note, this should really be in the other thread you made about DiRT 2 instead of making 2 threads. -
No i am in 4th place crossing the finish line and when it ends its like oh too bad nice try better luck next time and i get 8th place...ahhhhhhhh so annoying....i will admit i suck at racing games but the one time i get 3rd or 4th it says i came in 8th! just dont get it! lol oh well...i need a control and one day a high end wheel.....not one like the xbox wheel....that thing blows big chunks....it has a half turn to the right and left....now how is that realistic lol
-
Relax, take a deep breath.
* Keyboard -
You will get used to it once you start playing more racing games with it, you can of course always plug in a controller or a wheel if keyboard just isn't doing it for you.
* Finished in 8th -
Not sure what happened there, could be a glitch or something. There is a rewind feature in DiRT2 where you can rewind your game back - F1 to start it, hold F2 to rewind, and press F3 to resume.
* Loading/Driver talking -
I assume you are at the beginning of the game. Yes, there are lots dialogs going on here, once you get past this, there are no more dialogs to listen, and the game won't hold you back anymore. -
-
lol yeah, I hate that too, especially with all the hipster/d-baggery/X game vibe... that's the single aspect about DiRT2 that I hate the most. Hopefully DiRT3 will tone that stuff down a bit.
But anyways, just keep on playing, once you have unlocked enough stuff they will leave you alone, but not entirely. -
I hate dirt too. It gets all over the carpet and is a pain to clean up.
-
Are you in a rally race? Its all about time not who you finish ahead of.
-
Maybe you are playing the wrong type of race mode. Dirt 2 runs fine and plays fine with me. Also are you running games for windows live, like logging in to it and then play the game. The only glitch I ever encounter was when I finished the last lap of a race it did not finished, it just let me drive on forever. But other than that the game plays great! O and FYI, to get a great experience out of a racing game use a controller or wheel.
-
Dirt is fine with keyboard. The only driving game where I would use wheel or controller, and only for one particular type of race is NFS Shift drifting. And even then NFS Shift is more than fine with just keyboard, just don't race the drifting races.

Wheel with force feedback is needed to really enjoy this game.
Was great with my Momo but its really noisy with the G27 since the gears click. -
1) Keep your post clear, your posts have hard to interpret grammar and punctuation.
2) As previously mentioned there are only a handful of races where your finished position matters, the rest is about time.
3) Keyboard is similar to controller, if you get used to it you can do wonders. I use both racing only thing I find different is I tend to make 1 or 2 mistakes forcing a rewind but still end up first in most difficult setting.
4) Be patient, you wont become a great race gamer if you aren't.
EDIT: THERE IS NO POINT IN MAKING THIS THREAD WHEN YOU ALREADY HAD ONE TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THE GAME. YOUR OTHER THREAD HAS BEEN CLOSED. -

I bought Dirt 2 a couple days ago for $5 during a STEAM sale and I love it. I play with an Xbox controller.
Stop playing a racing game with a keyboard and buy a $20 Xbox 360 controller. -

I agree -- the menus are a bit tedious to go through, that was a complaint many reviewers made when the game first came out. However, be a little more patient, great gameplay awaits!
Dirt 3 should hopefully fix all the ills of Dirt 2. -
EDIT: why don't they patch it? Not like it be hard to allow the enter or esc key to allow you to skip the garbage -

If you Google a bit you might find a way to shorten or eliminate the main intro video sequence. The graphics are gorgeous, I run the settings all maxed out at 1080p and it looks epic. The water effects the night-time Tokyo rally events are really gorgeous.
The Malaysia courses are near Crysis good looking!
What's your Windows Live SN? Maybe we can have a race or two! -
I think its DCMAKER or try either of these 2 emails [email protected] or [email protected]
-
Malaysia looks pretty meh. The texture quality on the landscape is just not up to par. -
i hate to play dirt2 with keyboard. get a gamepad: xbox360

As far as I remember from the demo, it's all about time. It might show you're in 4th place, but there's few more cars behind you that didn't finish yet, and didn't have their time counted. After all of them finish, they could have time faster than yours and bump you off the spot. After all you can't count a time for a car that hasn't finished yet.

Were there laps in the race? Like did you go in a circle?
EDIT: You need to be more clear most of your posts barely make sense and lack any detail. -

Kingpinzero ROUND ONE,FIGHT! You Win!
Well im one of those happy customers here. I wish i could say the same with F1 2010, shame on codies, they need to go to hell (lol j/k).
Anyway i bought dirt2 day one and ive always played it with a wired X360 controller, never had any issues.
Besides as X2P said, Dominations modes are based on sector times, not the position. The fast you do in sectors, the less the global time you achieve = win.
As for rallies, things are different. It doesnt matter how many cars you pass, the real important thing is how much seconds/millisecond you can gain in bends, hairpins and straights. Althought Dirt2 is an arcade-ish game, theres also a setup screen before some races, and messing with settings really helps alot in some situations.
Ive had a blast playing it online specially in Dominations and Rallies, where seconds counts, hence where your driving skills really matter. Winning an even above 8 peoples, specially rallies, with an underpowered car but fine tuned is priceless. -
What difficulty level you been playing it on ?
-
-
!
On casual the game should be a breeze .... i play on serious , did 103 races and won 98. I tried hardcore , in 10 races i've won only 5It was hardcore!
Just sent you an invite thingy ... (DCMAKER right ? ) -

I've been playing using the "serious" difficulty. It's challenging for me while not being too easy! I've had to restart quite a few races! I may bump the difficultly up a notch when I get better.
-
Yeah after racing online the only difficulty that challenges me in single player is hardcore. Also I don't know how anyone can race with a keyboard, you should at least use a controller and preferably a wheel/pedals.
-
its all i got right now lol
-
I find difficult levels are rather "odd". Its been a complaint about the game that say casual is far to easy but the next level up would be too hard. Im okay with it but I think for many it bodes true that the gaps seems to be a bit too big.

Why does FRAPS not work in Dirt2? It doesn't show in the corner like its supposed to.
-
Yeah it does. You sure the overlay is on? Press F12 couple times.
Update to latest version of FRAPS. -
yea its on..i'll try updating thx for the idea
-
Maybe it's because of my general lack of experience with modern racing games, but are they all this y? Dirt 2 spends so much time trying to make itself feel "bad " completely outside of the racing experience. There must be some sort of UI arms race going on in the genre. I kind of just want to race.
I hate dirt 2!!!!
