    Hi everyone

I'm planning to buy a new laptop, and I would like to know some information and get your experiences on this Q.
Is the intergrated Nvidia 9400m much better in performance than the old 7400?
(Also if anyone knows the wattage of both chips, that'll be great info, because battery life is really imporant)

I currently have a dedicated 7400 laptop, it's starting to show its age for me, coz recently I bought Sims 3 and I couldn't really play it. It really doesn't run well even on Minimum everything (frame skips).
For me I don't mind playing games on low settings, and I'm not that much of a gamer, but I would like the Sims 3 to run at "nice" fps lol :)

Thanks all in advance for replies.

The 9400M will be about twice as fast, you will be able to run sim3 with it, but i doubt you will be able to get enjoyable FPS even with low settings, it is really a very weak card.

What laptop are u planning to buy? If u want better gaming capabilities, get at least an ati hd4570 or above.

If u want decent gaming , get a laptop with an ATI 4650 or a NVDIA GT 240M at least..

I have the 9300m GS and I'm pleased with the performance! I can play CoD 4 on a decent res. :) And after I upgraded to Windows 7, I got even better performance!

.. I hope I can play Modern Warfare 2 when it comes out (I think I can on low settings)

    Thanks all for the replies.

Oh no no no, I'm not planning to do any serious gaming, upto now the only game that I can't run fast enough is Sims 3. I am thinking of buying Spore, but I'm not sure it'll run on my laptop right now, since Sims 3 didn't.

Lidowxx: At the moment I'm not exactly sure which laptop I will buy. But it will definitely be, 13 inch like mine right now, 13 inch laptops are really the perfect size for me.
One thing that is important to me is battery life, so that's kind of why I was looking at the 9400m, because it's also intergrated.

Do you know how the 9400m compares battery and performance wise to a ATI 4570?
And does Nvidia have any new dedicated parts that compare with a ATI 4570?

    Thanks again everyone.

Performance wise, 4570 will destroy 9400M, there is no question about it, in the mean time, it consumes nowhere near as much energies as mid range/high end cards, of course you will have better battery life with 9400M but i doubt the difference will be noticeable.

Nvidia's equivalent of 4570 would be 9500/9600, but they all have a much higher TDP than 4570. If you desperately need more battery life, u can also go with 4530, it has an even lower TDP(8-12W according to notebookcheck), and it can play sim3 at low settings just fine.
