    Got blown away. Back when I was using Vista I would NEVER touch shaders and shadows on high, but now, on XP, I can run the game at 800x600,all high at about 22 average :D
    Man, that is it for me, Vista can go and die.
    Xp gave me,literally the chance to enjoy crysis visually. I`ll post screenshots later on.

    For all you 7950GTX users, get the 171.16 driver, and XP, and you`ll be amazed that the game actually runs on high! granted,it`s not 1440x900, but any 16:10 resolution low enough so you can set everything to high will be a shocker.
    I`ve never loved my laptop more than right now :D

    800x600 has to look like crap. Raise up the resolution, keep shaders and shadows at medium, and everything else at high and enjoy. Trust me, it'll look better like that. Doesn't Sager offer a 8800M GTX upgrade for your 5791? BTW, did you try playing in DX9 mode in Vista? It plays in DX10 mode by default, but if you change it to DX9 mode you get better performance without changing the graphics quality.

    Dude, I`ve finished the game twice all on medium ,vista 64 and 1280x800. But this video I made will prove that the 7950GTX still is an awesome card(in XP). i`ll try higher resolutions but for now I made this to show It`s ABSOLUTELY SMOOTH ! :D

    OK, update: The highest I could go and still get OVER 20 fps is 1024x768, all HIGH except object details which is set to medium. Man, I am so freaking extatic :D
    will provide link shortly.

    EDIT2 : The video uploaded will be at 1024x768 just for reference. :D :D :D :D

    First of all, as I said, I`ve already finished the game twice on vista. It was DX9 since the 7950GTX can only do DX9. Yes, sager offers the upgrade, but costs over 750$ and right now I don`t need it.
    The game is SMOOTH if above 17 fps. At 1024x768 it never went beneath 19, mostly 20+. Check out the video when I upload it.

    Vista SP1 is supposed to bring in some performance enhancements. Perhaps you can dual boot Vista when SP1 is out and inform us of the difference in performance?

    Sure thing! But for now, XP gave me LITERALLY more than 10 fps in CRYSIS. Before , if I would`ve set to high it would`ve worked at max 10 fps, now it does not go below 19 :D

    You're telling me you're getting 10FPS at high 800x600 on a 7950GTX?
    Pics or it didn't happen

    Are you talking about the demo?

    http://www.pclabs.gen.tr/2007/10/29/crysis-benchmark-with-8800gt/

    The desktop 8600GT gets 17FPS on high 1024x768 under Vista with 169.01. The Go 7950GTX is better I believe....

    That's on the demo, before Crytek & nvidia optimises it even more...

    @Michel: Unlike what everyone says, there is no way you will get dynamic shadows & soft particles under DX9, so no it doesn't look the same.

    I had 10 fps In vista.
    Video! just waiting for youtube to finish processing and I`ll provide the link. 20+ fps high(except medium objects) and 1024x768 :D
    Damn youtube takes forever to accept the video :mad:

    I don`t care what that benchmark says, I played the game also on a quad core 2.4 and the 8600 GT, desktop and ran a bit worse than my 7950GTX, and about 10 fps in vista at all high. Maybe Palit OCed the crap out of their cards, and that one is a GTS...

    I also want to proof of your Vista scores

    because this strongly disagrees with you.

    The HD 2400XT gets 12FPS at Medium 1024x768 under Vista.

    It may disagree for all I care, I know exactly WHY I could not play Crysis all HIGH in VIsta, because it ran like crap (~10fps=slide show).
    As I said, I trust my own experience over any benchmarks others post just out of boredom.
    i`m not reinstalling Vista just for a crysis test, there are others with my exact setup which can tell you how poorly the 7950gtx plays high in vista.

    Just ask somebody else man. I prooved my point that the 7950GTX can play crysis on HIGH at 1024x768 at over 20 fps.
    I know how Vista was,so if you need proof, fine by me, there are users who can convince you.

    he's obviously not lying.

    you don't need proof of this...

    however, i don't think a clean install of vista with a 7950gtx and a 2.2 ghz core 2 duo would get 10 fps in crysis... I have an 8600m gt and I can get 10 fps in crysis at that res and settings...

    But your 8600M GT is OCed. My card is not. That was my point. At stock, 1280x800 all high the 7950GTX in vista showed me a pretty slideshow.
    In XP, at 20+ fps , IT`s DAMN PLAYABLE :D

    Well, that was my point...... I was doubting the Vista results.

    I just got time to test the 171/4 drivers, that might be the reasons. I just installed 174.12 for Vista x64, I don't have Crysis but WiC & Lotro DX9 literally JUMPED in performance

    169.xx
    WiC benchmark (little lower than ingame due to camera effects) (1440x900)
    DX10= 10FPS
    DX9=11 FPS

    Lotro: (1680x1050)
    DX9= 18FPS
    DX10 with dynamic shadows off= 22FPS
    DX10 w/ dynamic shadows high= 16FPS
    -------------------------very high= 15FPS

    174.12
    WiC
    DX10=no change
    DX9= 10->14FPS

    lotro:
    DX10= no change
    DX9= 18->33FPS ->that's freaking goddly.

    I was playing on Very high before and now on MAX at higher FPS!

    8600M GT DDR2 @540/1460/520

    EDIT: huh? I'm not getting the same results in DX10. Might just have been dynamic shadows.

    How does that link have anything to do with the current topic?

    Do you doubt him just because he doesn't like Vista? Well people have a right to their own opinions.

    10fps is a little low, but there are loads of options in Crysis such as shadows and shaders that have a huge impact on performance.

    I like Vista but hopefully SP1 is going to fix the performance problems and compatability issues.

    I just find it hard to believe that the Go 7950GTX only gets 10FPS at 1024x768. If that's true, the only reason I can see now is that Nvidia says GTFO about the FX-6-7 series in their Vista drivers and only improved the 8 series ones, in which case it's not Vista who is sucking up 100% of the perf difference.

    And that's probably because they didn't even released openGL drivers before the summer. You couldn't use CAD softwares before lol.

    that would not suprise me at all actually....my card is not twice as powerful as his, but that res is comfortable at all high for me, go higher and in some parts it gets a bit choppy. 10fps seems just about right for that card, atleast on vista

    For those who probably did not even read the whole topic, the video was made in 1024x768 and never went under 19, all high, except object detail which remained at medium for some reason.

    And I`m not giving up an OS just for one game,but FOR ALL OF THEM.
    -I can now play max gta san andreas at 1920x1200,3xAA,very high and get over 40 fps.
    -I can play Heroes 5 maxed out with max AA and AF , 1920x1200,very high.
    -I can play Painkiller maxed out with over 70 fps.
    -I can play UT3 5/5 details at 1280x800 at over 30 fps. THIS is the biggest difference, in Vista I could get over 30 at anything below 4/4 detail level.

    Should I continue? Vista is horrible for gaming still. I like it more as an OS than XP, but what can I do? I bought a gaming laptop, not a OS laptop...

    I was getting 18-25FPS 5/5 2xAA 1680x1050 in UT3 demo, I have a DDR2 card. I checked some benchmarks and you might be right, although it's more the drivers that are at fault.
    The 8600GT achieves better than results than the 7900GTX in Crysis, Vista. The Radeon HD & GF7 got hard hits under Vista while the GF8 stayed arround the same thing. Wasn't the 8600GT as good as a 7800GT 6 months ago? I remember at lauch where it was exactly at the same perf as the 7600GT and everyone stayed it was a utter crap 128bits bus card. Now it beats the 7900 in Crysis.

    Not just crysis, any game in which shaders make a whole lot of difference. But as stated, the 7950GTX still packs quite a punch and for me, being able to play high at 1024x768 the toughest system killers on a card that was the king 2 years ago is one more reason to love my laptop. Once I`ll go with the 88M GTX I`ll have no problem with any games , from this perspective.

    13-18 is hardly smooth or playable.
    There are various tweaks and mods to try ,crysis seems to be very customizable...
