I have a dv1000 notebook, and I don't play very many PC games. In fact, I haven't bought a PC game since SimCity 3000 years ago. I'd like to run SimCity 4 on my laptop, but I'm not sure if it's powerful enough.

Minimum System Requirements for SimCity 4

Operating System: Windows XP/ME/2000/98 (Windows 95/NT not supported)
CPU: 500 MHz Intel Pentium III or AMD Athlon processor
    RAM: 128 MB
    CD/DVD-Rom Speed: 8X
Hard Drive Space: 1 gig plus space for saved games
Video: 16 MB video card, DirectX 7 compatible
    Sound: DirectX 7.0 compatible
    Input: Keyboard, mouse

    Recommended System Requirements

    CPU: 1 GHz or faster
    RAM: 256 MB or more
Video: 32 MB or greater supported Direct 3D video card

All I know about my laptop specs is this:

    -512 RAM
    -60GB
    -Intel Graphics Card
    -Physical Mem: 478MB
    -Min:32MB
    -Max:64MB
    -DirectX 9.0c

I don't know if any of the above info is relevant at all. Am I safe to buy this game? I'd hate to buy it only to find out it won't run...

I ran SimCity 4 on a laptop I bought in 2002. The specs were:

    Intel Celern 1.1Ghz
    RAM: 256MB
    Integrated Graphics (up to 32MB)
    40GB HDD

The game ran well on low settings but slowed down quite a lot in a big city. The extra RAM will help a lot, and so will being able to use 64MB graphics memory. You should be able to run the game fine, but don't expect to use highest quality settings without slowdown - I still get some slowdown with 512MB, X700 128MB & 1.6Ghz)

Do you know what the processing specs on your laptop? I doubt that SimCity 4 would require a lot of power, but I think your computer should be able to handle it. The only thing I am hesitating on is your graphics card.

I have no idea what processor you have, but I can still say it will run fine. Not exactly a graphically intensive game!!

Your laptop will definately run it. I played it fine on a 5 year old IBM thinkpad on high detail settings

Thanks guys. I figured I'd be OK, seeing as how the game is a few years old now.

If it had come out this year, or even last year, I wouldn't have even considered it.

    Thanks again. Much appreciated.
