so you want to lay down on say CoD 4/5, and hit that win button by mistake, and loose all the action when the start menu pops up and game minimizes .. have this happened to you ??
^ mod, now much better![]()

lol, priceless
-
half the time the game will crash if i try and get back into it too.
-
lol very nice
-
My keyboard (Logitech G15) has a switch to disable the Windows key. That said, I never use it - I guess I got lucky in that I never hit my Windows key while gaming.
The Windows key is so useful, I can't imagine not having one at all. -
Epic priceless... I love it man, Ill do the same..
-
lol nice mod! but like Hep i have a g15 keyboard. i agree that sometimes COD will crash!
-
That made me laugh haha.
Also another mod I found was.
Set Prone to Left Alt instead and hit it with your thumb thats always rested on the space bar. -

Or, you could have softmoded it with a program instead of possibly destroying your keyboard, so that while the program is active that key has no function.
-
lol, awesome! Luckily, I don't have the "press Windows key while gaming" problem, but I am sure I would have done that if I did.
-
now theres a dedicated gamer
-
-
You can also disable that key if you want. You know if you get tired of pulling that key out every time you start out COD.

You need to edit the picture and make it say "WIN".
Nice mod - and yes, I have done this once or twice so I know what it's like. -

There's actually a registry edit
that disables the winkey (you can even disable left/right separately) :/ -
LMAO
It's a good thing I wasn't eating breakfast yet. Though I am coughing due to a slight cold~+rep
-
much better without the button. I remember keyboards before didn't have it anyways
I can put the button back anytime, but without it my KBD is kind of geek-gamer oriented, lol.
cheap KBD FTW(10 bux KBD + mouse, both USB)

I've been gaming for so long that I never hit the windows key on accident. I can hit 1-7, F1-F8 without looking.
-
Very helpful, but I'm not sure of the process, could you please post a guide?
-
I've been able to type without needing to look at the keyboard since I was 8, so I've actually never hit that key either while gaming. This is also a notebook forum, and think of how terrible that would make the notebook look to just RIP out a key when you can just easily disable it as others have said.
-
Keyboard remapper. The trial should let you disable 2 keys at a time.
-
Or just go HERE, download the two reg scripts, and run one or the other to disable or enable windows key. Requires a reboot.
Or get AutoHotKey and map it however you want. It's freeware and very powerful for macros or other things you want to do. -
Haha
Man someone earlier on said it right
Dedicated gamer or what
With bad co-ordination -
...i just think he is creative lol
-
yep, sure is an interesting idea to say the least
-
i never had the windows key problem, but my friends does and does the same thing, but he'll rip off both of the windows keys instead of just the left one.
-
-
instead of cutting it off, you could have glued it to keep from working
-
looool , this problem used to happen to me all the time
especially in counter trike ,wich will lead to the loss of sound , unless i quit and re-launch the game
miro_gt you're a genius -
Lol why's everyone tellnig him hes ruining his keyboard & he cut it off & etc.?
Haven't you guys ever removed every key on your keyboard to do a complete keyboard dust-out than put them back on?
Maybe I'm the only one -
I have a friend that use to hit the right "thumb" button on the Intellipoint Mouse every time he left clicked. It brings up the minimap on BF2 when he played on my computer.
The best part was he wasn't coordinated enough to hit the right "thumb" button again. LOL. -
hey update ----
it works better than I originally though, lol
- on C&C for example it's easier to group units by marking them and CTRL-(number);
- on Age of Empires II - same thing;
- Quake 4 and Enemy Theritory Quake Wars - big improvement, same as in COD 4
and it feels very comfortable leaving your thumb to rest on the place of the Win key.. what a nice thing I discovered
cheers -
Thumb should be resting on space so you can jump in combat!
(Yep, I'm a diver. No, diving and bunny hopping is not the same thing. Yes, when you tell people they're bunny hopping, 99% of the time, they're diving.) -
Hmm, same here. I've never hit my Windows key on accident.
Then again, I've been using my Macbook Pro to game for a year and well, the 'Windows'/'Apple'/Command key is placed differently, so you're less likely to hit it.
Either that you can use the really really old keyboards that didn't have 'Windows Keys'.

on laptops dust gets all tangled in the.. I guess they're called Key connectors? I don't know, but those things that the keys themself attach to, seem to gather dust after a year or two.
-
I never had any problem with the Win button since I am assigning the lay down or prone function to the extra two mouse buttons (back or forward). Has anyone done that? It is much easier and quicker.
-
Forward - Too much hand movement. -
i really rarely hit my windows key while gaming, but i frequently hit the wrong button. B button (for speak command), instead of V (for mellee).
i dont really have problem if i hit windows in CoD4, it switch between desktop and game almost intantenously. in CoD5 Waw however, switching to windows is quick but switch to the game back takes very very long time, i think it was their 'online user authentication account' thing that make things that way. -
That key is so useful. Every once in a while you find a game that has an option to disable it. It always surprises me that isn't a standard option in PC games.
-
If I'm sniping, using the mouse thumb keys to change my stance tends to throw off my aim slightly as I go press the thumb key.
When I play rts games, I actually use the heel of my palm to hit Ctrl and my five fingers can correspondingly hit the first five number keys easily. For 6 - 10, I'm not as proficient. I gotta look for the right ctrl key almost every time. -
I had to turn off sticky keys (frantically pressing shift to sprint while running back with the flag got me dead several times when the sticky keys prompt came up). I also moved the t from being talk to nothing. I accidentally hit it too many times when i was hitting reload and then ended up dieing cuz i was typing a chat when i thought i was playing. I also mapped keys 1 and 6 to my thumb button (1 to switch primary guns and 6 to do the special attacks). This helped me a lot, im consistently in the top 3 of both teams in ctf, but usually number 1 on my team.
-
lol awesome!!
-
I play CoD better after a small hardware mod, lol (pic)
