yes, I did it. I bought the expansion and a few weeks later, I quit playing. It's been a couple of weeks now. It's nice.
I formatted my hard drive and just didn't install it.
I still think about playing but when I do I think "what would I be doing? killing things and doing the same quests over and over with different characters?"
So I moved on. I almost feel like a traitor.![]()

Feels good doesn't it?
You should have quit before the expansion and sold your account.
But it does feel really nice to quit... Raiding took up way too much time! -
heh...i quite CS:S after 1 year of playing. Perhasps ill start again when Im at Uni.
-
I stopped and have been lured back to Azeroth since the expansion.. however I'm pleased to say that so far it's not dominating my time as previously it was so easy to get sucked into
I'm leaving my lvl 60's alone for now.
lvl 16 Drenai pally FTW!! -
I quit for about six months and went back for the expansion--level 69 1/2 Draenei shaman--SO CLOSE!!!
I work at home and have really flexible hours; I really missed the timesink that is WoW. I spend less time bored at least.
-
Woohoo.. DOTA!!!

Congrats... I heard a lot of bad stories about what WoW can do to you. I have never played WoW, but I used to play a lot of Army Ops. I never felt sorry about it, but now I do not have time to play anymore. And the game is not as fun as it used to be.
I also played Oblivion for a long time. 160 hours or something in just a few months. Not playing it anymore because there is nothing left to do
Busy with study, busy with business, busy helping people at NBR! -
Many of my friends have quit WoW recently.
I can't get myself to do it until I at least see the new raiding content. It looks promising.
But good luck in your choice. Especially if it was dominating your life. -
Yep, I quit WoW too. Bought the expansion pack the day it came out. Didn't have that much time to play. Now i'm thinking about CS 1.6. Is that normal Counter Strike or a mod to Half Life. I get mixed results when I google it.
-
I will never give in to WoW. NEVER!!!
-
Yes you will. It's so tempting. It's like the Dark Side of the Force.
-
congrats on quitting cigs --
woW eats and kills lives -- like cancer!!
one guy I knew -- would be playing wOw over around 18 hrs a day. -
It started as CS 1.0, but then pathces/updates came, and the "newest" version of the old CS is CS 1.6.
The new version is CS: Source, which is a whole new game.
It's basicly the same, but the graphics and weapons and movements and stuff has been redone. -

Playing WoW 18 hours a day? You must be joking right? Man that means that this person sits whole day behind a PC, sleeping 6-7 hours and eating his diner behind the PC.
Like they say: too much of everything is harmful. -
im running down the same road...havent touched wow in weeks, im playing vanguard and cs:s right now..im happy with both..
-
Happy to say i've never played WoW.
-
I gotta say the south park episode of WoW always makes me want to play it. But WoW is officially uninstalled.
-
-
I haven't played much of any game in the last few weeks. I've been doing puzzles with the wife, watching tv, reading for my part time classes.
it's odd. -

I can understand that teenagers play WoW but I find it strange that adults (>30 with family) play games like that. I mean: ok it is fun to play a first person shooter 1 hour a day to shoot away the aggression of work but playing a game for hours on a day sounds strange to me.
What do you guys think about it? -
When you're leveling you can just go off on your own and do quests. It doesn't take a group to do those. Some people prefer the leveling part of the game.
So casual gamers can play WoW. You can avoid doing instances (which require a group and many hours) to level.
The real problem comes with end game. Once you reach the max level (60 before the expansion - when I use to play) there isn't much to do except run instances and raids. That's when it becomes time consuming. You can't really be a casual gamer and go on the 40 man raids since you need to give up hours of your time to the raid. Just to clear MC it would take my guild and I 3 hours. -
In my guild, there are quite a few of 'oldies' as we call it, but overall, the median age was about the mid thirties. It's a way to get out from reality, and into another world where they can be a stealthy rogue, a beastmastering Hunter, etc. Another guildie has her son in the same guild, so its also family time. There has also been two whom met in the guild 13 months ago, and are now living(and killing stuff in Azeroth) together
-
I agree with you. I also find it weird that adults play WoW (like in that south park episode) I'm a teenager so I have the privalage to play
-
Person A) Works at home as real estate agent, housework and cares for his two sons(He recommends to only get one offspring)
Person B) Housewife, does housework/babysits for 3 kids(two under 5, one in school) <--Person A chimes in and recommends for future bachelors that wife should work, or else they'll get into games like WoW and be hit on my teenagers
Person C) Is playing at work(IT Technician) <--then laughs evilly...
Person D) Plays with son on WoW, son in gradeschool, she controls his gaming time. Works in morning, plays in afternoon, picks up child, makes dinner/housework, play, sleep.
Quite interesting I should say, I'm a student as well, so I can't comment. -
Yeah I played with a lot of people that were in their 30's and 40's. They all came to raids with us. I didn't really know much of their personal lives though, never bothered asking. I know one of them had a wife but no kids. I knew a girl who was in her 30's. She was married (had no kids), and her husband also played WoW (he was in another guild though).
Thinking back on all these people reminds me of the good times... The one thing I miss is all the people I met and played with. -
^ Another reason why I ain't quitting yet.
If anything, its more of a social network, rather then a game. -
-
Hmm and I just started a while back....yes after 2 years of controlling myself I jumped onto the boat, but no plans to quit.
Level 35 ftw -
Rolled on new server on January 16th, currently level 63, Undead Mage
Though, the people I started with are higher then me, I need to be caught up =/ -
well my account is still active... I have to delete it I guess. That will be the hard part
-
-
It's very much about the people and not about the game.
-
-
It's true. The social factor is awesome...
But then again you could work on the real life social life! -
I also recently quit WoW. I never really got into the raiding. I was really big into the PvP though. That was time consuming, especially in the old honor system. talk about time consuming. i made it to lieutenant general so i could get my mount, and then soon after was when the new system started. after pvp i found it hard to get back into pve. i never bought the expansion. the few times i did go on raids i got bored. my guild like to run ZG every week. i just got tired of having to run the same instance over and over again to get certain items and faction rep. so now i am back to playing some FPSs that i havent played yet...games that actually have an ending.
-
I enjoyed Raids and PvP...
I think I was a little too addicted for my own good... We'd do Onyxia, then clear MC and start BWL in one night. Then we'd spend another night in BWL getting as far as we could.
That plus ZG and AQ20 in one night. And a few attempts at AQ40 before I quit... Then you'd throw in some PvP fun in all that and I was doing something WoW related pretty much every night of the week...
What also sucked is that I go to school in Newfoundland (Canada). We're on our own time zone up there that's 1.5 hours off the eastern time zone. So people on my server would raid until midnight, but it was really 1:30 AM for me.
PS: Shouldn't this go in Off Topic? -
well it's game related! it's world of warcraft!!
I was going to start it there, but then I thought about it and it's a game. Who knows.... -
Meh! It's all good.
Now play DotA! -
My 21 year old brother plays. It's scary. His V2000z probably died from all the heat (crapped out in 6 months, after which he got a cooling pad). When he's not playing, he's reading the WoW manual. Seriously, how many times can you read that thing?
After seeing my bro play, I decided not to. I'm more of an FPS/Stealth guy. I play CS: Source, R6: Vegas, WarRock (just a bit, too laggy right now), and a bit of Zelda (my new found favorite). I grab some Metal Gear Solid now and then, but over played them all. -
Everytime I quit I come back. If I put as much time into real life as I did that game I might have made something of myself. Oh well, you only live once and this is how I enjoy my life.
-
i just started playing WoW a week ago. usually after i level up one. Then i usually stop. But when i am really bored i will keep going. i dont have a problem stoping. cuz if i stop... i got Gears of War and BF2142 waiting for me :O)
-
My cousin nuked the one account I had.
Every other day I was getting emails from WoW admin. It went from warnings, to short suspensions, to three-day suspensions. Oh man, the langauge reports they sent with the suspension notices -- if my aunt had seen what this kid was saying, she'd have a coronary and order an exorcism.
I don't think my cousin even played the game -- he logged on and had verbal diarrhea. I must admit, some of it was pretty dam funny.
Weeks later, I got an email about account termination, something to do with third-party software, so I guess he was hacking or cheating somehow.
I really don't care all that much, I have better things to do with my time than WoW, which gets really boring at endgame. I never planned on buying that "expansion," what a waste of time and money. In fact, I think I enjoyed the emails about "abusive conduct" and the shocking stream of verbal pornography, than I did the stupid game.
I quit.... WoW!
