I tried it in dx9, it gave me crap fps. tried it on dx10 same settings, i got around 30 fps, on gamer. i think this is what causes people to say "It made my fps worse)
-
i play it on dx9 it works better then dx10
-
DX9 should actually get you better FPS.
-
Not necessarily.
DX10 should eventually result in a higher FPS compared to an equivalent DX9 game using the same effects.
Maybe the dream is finally coming true.
-
What factors determine this? It would be nice if it is true. I'd just like to know exactly why it is, if it is.
-
The only games in which DX10 performs better are Lost Planet and Assassins Creed, so it can be done, as long as they try not to make it look better at the same time.
-
DX9 is definitely giving more fps than DX10 using the same settings. you can test this with the framebuffer warhead benchmark tool. You're looking at 3-5 fps improvement just switching to DX9.

thanks for the headsup WarlordOne

in some vista games, dx10 vista performs slightly better than dx9 vista if dx10 is used strictly for performance and not to better visuals.
crysis is not one of those cases, they are few and far between.
also, dx10 vista still doesn't outperform dx9 xp. -
Umm, my gateway 7811 seems to get good FPS just fine, I think using DX 9, how do I enable DX 10?
-
^dont waste your time enabling DX10, the game looks phenomenal at my native 1440x900 maxed, you should be able to atleast do that with your setup.

If you are using windows vista and have a dx10 gpu, I think dx10 is enabled by default. if you aren't using windows vista or don't have a dx10 gpu, you cannot use dx10.
if you have dx10 going and want to change to dx9, just ask how here, people know

On my T7300, 8600m DDR3 machine, DX9 runs like 50% better.
DX10 is not good for my machine at least. -
Not really. Dx10 features are all you get out of DirectX 10. Otherwise it is an emulated Dx9 therefore lower fps.
Games that claim faster FPS haven't proven so. -
DX10 only emulates DX9 if it is a DX9 game or it is in DX9 mode if I am not mistaken. I play at 1024x640 on all mainstream and get ~30 except for snow areas, where it drops to around 20-25.
-
I've tried both DX10 and DX9 on Warhead. Everything else the same, I boosted frame rate by 33% when using DX9. Graphical differences appear negligible.
-
That's a huge difference. Maybe you should try one of those custom config files floating around the gaming section. They make a huge difference in the graphics over mainstream while still giving good FPS.
Like said before Vista + dx10 compatable GPU= DX10 mode by default. Since you have a 7811, unless you installed XP, that's you. To fix this just add -dx9 to the end of the warhead shortcut. The properties in my steam shortcut looks like this:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\Crytek\Crysis WARHEAD\Bin32\Crysis.exe"-dx9 -
I'm a dumbass, sorry, I saw the title of this thread WH and thought you were talking about Warhammer, then I realized it's a thread about Crysis Warhead
my bad . . . . -
I do use a custom config. Makes the game look like its on Gamer, but with better performance than the default Mainstream setting.
However, the benchmarking tool uses the games default settings for testing.
I think I know the reason people complaing about low FPS in WH
