There are threads elsewhere but I am hoping some more people with similar rigs can help me with a few questions. My rig is in sig but basically stock i72760 2.4ghz/3.5 turboboost, 2 580m SLI and 8 gig ram. I am running current Nvidia drivers.
Crysis 2 runs pretty well at max with dx11/high res pack. I hear this game is a KILLER; even to desktop rigs. So I am thinking I will be running "High" instead of "Very High." How much difference in visual fidelity between the two settings? In some games, it's not that much (BF3, Crysis2, etc). Will this still be a "wow factor" game even though I am not maxing it.
What type of performance can I expect with my rig? Any recommendations to get the best visual fidelity by sliding down certain features that aren't as noticeable and turning up others? Thanks everyone! I love the crysis series but usually wait to play them "the way they are meant to be played." However, even though I got this rig in July of 2011, I still think I have some juice left in her!

I guess high settings with MSAA enabled (~30 fps). It is a nice shooter with seriously good graphics

Almost exactly like maxheap suggested, I would run with everything at high, with either MSAA or SMAA for multigpu. It should run well with those settings (you may need an oc to hit a constant 60fps though.) You'll lose some visual fidelity between very high and high, but it won't be very noticeable for most people. It's an awesome game with excellent graphics, but unfortunately it's a lot shorter than Crysis 2. Expect to finish in around 6 hours.

Thanks for the replies. Honestly, I am so busy with work, I actually prefer shorter single player experiences. I have replayed Crysis and Warhead a few times just because it was such an open experience. Crysis 2 was a letdown just from the "consolization" side of things but still enjoyable. Most of my gaming is short periods of online CS:S, CS:GO and L4D2. I just hope the high settings are playable and graphically enjoyable. I am a bit of a videophile so I expect to be let down slightly. However, I just can't justify the upgrade yet to a new system for only a select game or two. I am hoping for another year of gaming (and catching up on a HUGE backlog of games that do max on this system from all the Steam sales). Then I hope to upgrade to a maxwell GPU system in 2014 to be set for another 3 years.
Is the game playable at 30FPS? Does anyone know what "spec" the consoles run the game and at what FPS? I am guessing something like slightly sub 720p and "medium" quality settings? Not sure if they play at 60FPS or if the game requires 60 FPS. I know Crysis series are typically very playable around 30FPS. -

It should be playable at 30fps, but I think your rig will pull off significantly better fps than that without an issue. The PC version of Crysis 3 in medium is still miles ahead of the console version. I imagine that the console version is similar to low settings at sub 720p, but with even less eyecandy. I have Crysis 2 on my 360 and ps3, and it was hilarious when I compared them to Crysis 2 running maxed on my old 7970m. -
Awesome Failwheeldrive. I am psyched to check it out now...almost done downloading! I see you are a fellow AW owner. Did you purchase your system new? If so can I ask when you purchased it and how much you paid? I do debate upgrading but just can't pull the trigger quite yet. Maybe after I load up Crysis 3 I will change my mind

I had an M17x r4 before this, and I paid around $2.3k after tax on it. It was around $2.5k on the website, so it would have been roughly $2.7k after tax with no discount. -
Well I basically rushed out from the first 20 minutes to get to the "jungle" and am blown away from the graphics. You guys are NOT lying about how beautiful the game is. I also like that it is more open ended than Crysis 2 (getting closer to the original crysis). I will have to play with the settings but Very High is definitely not playable. High settings does look very very good though. Ironically, even though FRAPS was showing 50ish FPS...it sure felt like I was playing much lower FPS. I have heard there is a mod for the graphics that also helps with the performance. Does anyone know where to point me in the direction where I will find it?

The game is alright. I found though it wasn't as fun for replays as the original game. Got boring fast. Perhaps I am just getting old too fast!

I can run low at a constant 60fps (textures on ultra) or medium at ~30 fps on my 6950 (desktop). I cannot notice a change in visual quality between the two, so I keep it on low, enjoy the extra FPS, and a game that still looks amazing. Surprisingly fun to play, too, especially in the latter levels when it's just straight-up kill/blow up everything.

Looks pretty good for "low."

I always find that the texture quality makes the biggest difference in games. Those screenshots prove that right. They remind me of Crysis and Crysis Warhead.
Good thing the new consoles will have tons of memory. That should allow much better textures than we have now. -

Bro, sorry for the confusion. I was meaning minimum 30 fps. Just some places (especially start) was so buggy and poorly optimized (don't know why) it was running much slower than it should (that's why 30 fps minimum). Btw the standards of playable-fps is so high nowadays, back in the time, 30 was stellar
I don't know the mod as I played in the first few days and then didn't get back to it though.

I took the plunge and bought Crysis 3. What can I expect?
