Not to thread jack but my wife is interested in learning chess. I know how the pieces move and general rules but I DO NOT actually know how to play (i.e. opening moves, strategies etc..) I was hoping someone can recommend a good computer based resource, whether online or boxed software, that can teach her to play?

    Thanks!

Chess is one of those games that you just play and get better at. When you talk about chess strategies, that's going to go way over the head of a newbie. Download a chess game in which you can play against the computer, set the level to easiest, and just play. Once it becomes too easy, bump it up a notch.

For example, I started playing maybe a month ago against the computer using Vista's built-in chess game. Started at level 1, now I'm up to level 3 (out of 10 levels).

    I suck.

Are you talking about that chess game with all the animated characters that would kill each other in interesting ways?

Do a google search on "Free Chess game for download", there alot of variation of "Free" chess game out there, imo, instead of us recommending one to you; you should do some searches and pick out one that fits.
