I've been on an old school kick lately and have been playing some top down and side scrolling shooters but I need more ;)
Any sites that you people can recommend?
    I must for gamepad support.
Anything on steam I should look out for?
    Geometry Wars is awesome..lol
They don't have to be free but it would be nice.
Can anyone find IKARUGA for the PC?
    looked everywhere and nothing.
Any games or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

    Great link!
There's just something about these type of games that I love, easy to learn but hard to master.
Going to my local arcade when I was a young kid everyone was always huddled around Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat while these games are great it left all the shooters to me( who ever wants to play the little kid in the back...that was me :))
Ahhhh good times anyway which one of these games is your favorite?
Seems like they have a good selection.

Glad I could help, here's a couple of my favorites that D/L'd from there:

    Blood red skies
    EtherVapor
    Embodiment_of_Scarlet_Devil
    PatriotDark

There's is literally hundreds of them and I haven't even scratched the surface of trying all of them yet... also u should check out MAME ( an arcade emulater ) and try games like Dodonpachi, Progear, Dragon Blaze, R-Type, and Nemesis... My room mate and I were arcade rats too, in fact he just built a custom arcade cabinet that runs off an old hp desktop just for these types of games, and the occasional Street Fighter session lol

    R-Type....excellent!

Anyone remember a side-scroller game for Playstation called G-Darius? You were a pilot that basically fought against huge robotic sea creatures =D

    I loved that game.
It was right next to STRIDER, I'd flip from one machine to the other.
