My actual notebook is an alienware with 1440x900 display resolution, now the gaming laptops have 1980x1020 standard resolution. Now i have problems of fps with my ati 5870 at the resolution of 1440x900 in games like battlefield 3 and lord of the rings war in the north.
If i will buy a notebook with 2 ati 6990 crossfire x and a monitor with 1980x1020 resolution, will i be able to play an heavy game like battlefield 3 with ultra settings and at least 50 or more fps at the resolution of 1980x1020?
i read some benchmarks not very positive about radeon 6990m and 1980x1020 resolution with battlefield 3.Maybe its better if i wait the new 7990?
-
with 6990 crossfire, I think your set for 60 fps @ ultra

really? so decent number of fps...but for you.....i want some opinions, its better if ibuy pc now or i wait for the new 7000 series? consider that i want to keep this pc AT LEAST for 2-3 years.
-
Wait, you seriously have problems running games at 1440x900 with a 5870?
-
I didn't have a problem running most games at 1366x768 on my M11x which only has a 335m, and that's not a much smaller res.
That 5870 is what, 4x(?) more powerful than the 335? -
With lord of the rings war in the norh max settings and battlefield 3 ultra setting i notice some problems the action was not completely fluid, maybe also because i have a quad core 840qm 1,86 ghz?...
i have 2 5870 1 gb crossfire x.Anyway for you, let's say that i want to change my pc and i want that my new pc will last at least 2 years without compromise with games, it is worth to buy a new pc now or its better that i wait till april 2012 (when the new 7990 will exit) what do you think?
IF the monitor of my possibile new pc would be like like the monitor of my actual pc 1440x900 i would buy a new pc immediately, but the new monitor will be 1980x1020 (high resolution) that's why i'm thinking.I want to change my pc but i want to have a huge improvement in terms of prestations. -
-
Really? Why??????
i'm sad, i read other benchmark with not recent game at 1980x1020 resolution, the ati 6990 suffers a lot (23.4 average fps with battlefield 3!), why they make monitors for notebooks with native 1980x1020 hd resolution when the graphic devices can't run games in hd?!
i'm seriously thinking about keeping my old pc with radeon 5870 and 1440x900 resolution monitor -
Damn, I can't even run ultra on my desktop. even the 6990m will have to compromise after a couple years if not sooner. Ultra rarely is better or even noticeable from high settings, and the biggest killer is usually shadows and lighting effects.
-
yes but i think that i would buy a desktop with 12 giga of ram, intel i990x and 2x 6990 crossfire for desktop and with a monitor with 1440x900 resolution i wouldn't have problems to run any game with ultra settings.....am i right?
-
You are right. If you had that desktop setup 1080p would not be any issue.
-
the 6990m crossfire can run it at ultra as you requested. In the next couple years, games with higher requirements will require faster cards.
Its simply the flow of technology. The desktop you listed will definently run at ultra, however you were asking questions about 1080p. The graphics card doesnt have to stress alot if its running at 900p compared to 1080p -
yes so now i know 2 things : OR i buy a desktop system with a 15 1024x768 monitor and 2 ati 6990 OR i wait next year for the new graphic cards of ati.
hoping that 7990 will be enough for the 2012 games and for HD resolution.
-
You certainly like to play games at horrible resolutions...
I would much rather bump down from ultra to high and have 1080p (would rather go back to 1200p honestly) than play ultra at 1024x768 or 1440x900.

-
6990m Crossfire wouldn't break a sweat at 1080p with any game for quite some time. I know it's personal choice, but if you really want ultra quality at 60fps don't get a laptop.

the creators made a typo when they created that episode lol. -

that section made me lol. -
The highest performing 7xxxM is probably going to have 1400 shaders.
I want to change notebook but i'm not sure about resolution
