I'm just getting into computer gaming, and I wanted to get some opinions as to the best multiplayer games that are available and what my options are. So I have two questions:

    1. (This is the main question) I know games like Counter-Strike exist where people just run around and shoot at each other.. But are there games that have large maps and one shot kills? Kind of like paintball, where you have look for your enemies, hide from them, and make well placed shots.

    2. (Less important) What are some good multiplayer games that are out right now? I'm thinking more along the lines action adventure type games. Not so much the racing and sports type. Any thoughts?

Any help would be much appreciated.

I've been playing Battlefield 2 since it came out and I still think its a blast to play. Thousands are still playing at any given hour so its a good choice. I believe the game has the FPS/Adventure flair that your looking for. Don't think of buying Battlefield 2042, horrible horrible horrible. Many good multiplayer games are coming out soon such as UT3, Crysis, and Warhammer Online.

Also I suggest looking into free alternatives, such as some of the latest multiplayer Counterstrike Source mods. The two most popular multiplayer mods out now are Insurgency which has some nice big maps and 1 shot kills (very realistic game) and Digital Paintball.

    Hopes this helps!

Well, I know there was actually a very fun paintball game on the xbox 360. It might have come out on the PC too.

Battlefield 2 is great. I currently play BF2142 which is also a very great game. The maps are so large, you can choose whether you want to stay miles away sniping, or get up close to the action and try to take out a tank with C4. It's a great game, but it's set in the future, some people dont like futuristic stuff.

There's also a paintball mod for counter strike source if you have that game.

Call of Duty 2 on rifles mod servers (which there are many of) seems to fit the bill.

Hmm.. now I don't know where to start with these suggestions. I went through the Insurgency message boards and I have a few follow-up questions. Insurgency looks like it's only team based. Any free-for-all battles that take place on large maps with one shot kills? I'm a little wary of starting my gaming experience in teams.. since I'm pretty sure I'll just be dead weight.

Battlefield 2 looks interesting, as does 2142.. Where to start.

And thanks for the paintball suggestion, but that was more of an example. I'm looking for something that's a little more realistic than paintball and offers something tactical other than just running and shooting.

Americas Army is a great game to play, and it is a free download at americasarmy.com It does not have paintball maps, but if you are looking for a strategic fps where you can't really run and gun, I think that you would find this one appealing

One more thought.. Any of these games have a deathmatch mode that only gives you one life?

I don't know about 1 life, but for deathmatch there are free online games like GunZ ( http://www.gunzonline.com/) and for paid there is Unreal Tournament, although both are not really new.

Yeah i agree, I honestly think BF2 is better than BF2142 at any given moment. I suppose it depends on whether you like current day warfare or futuristic.
