Get any of the Total War series. If you really get into it, you'll play for days.

Company of Heroes, KOTOR and something like WoW are great time wasters. Heck, if you've already got WoW (or Guild Wars if you mind the monthly fee), then just keep playing that! If you haven't tried it before, get Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (1 or 2), it's great fun.

EDIT: or you could get medieval 2: total war if you're into giant cataclysmic battles, great game.

Oblivion is the most addictive game I have ever played (offline, that is). It is also the most demanding game hardware-wise, due to beautiful scenery... and poor coding. But your Quadro 2500 would have no problem with it.

+1 for the Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War series. I'd say this game has caused more cases of "lost time" than the Greys.

Oblivion's my #1 game for accidently spending 5 hours playing instead of 1. You really do need obscene hardware for the best effect -- it has the potential to look gorgeous.

I throw Civilization 4 in the ring. For me, play that and a day is gone quickly, plus you can put it down when you're not sick any more and you won't lose any semblance of a social life or girlfriend, family, job, etc (as you would with most MMO's).

LOL, this shoulda never been asked the way it was. Everyone has a different opinion about a good game, everyone would tell you a different game...

It would be better if we knew what types of games you liked... Then we could stop telling you any random and pick out from a certain group, IE rpgs, and such.

For all we know, you may like rts games and all of our answers... suck.

EDIT: Err, I just checked some of the answers. All of our answers except the mods :p. And a couple others.

But still, it would be best if we knew what type of game you like, so we can give you tips from there.

I'd vote for Civ4 as well. But my current addiction is FFXII on my PS2... and Kingdom Hearts II. Just "beat" it though (still a number of things I haven't completed in the game that I might want to eventually... wonder if you can back up PS2 memory cards...)

Agreed. If console games are OK to list, FFXII is a great way to pass the time. I think I've already put in 40 hours, though I'm a sucker for trying to get everything/level up/etc.....

The game, so far, does not disappoint.

You get the "Hunter's Monograph"? It's well worth it. I'm only 12 hours into it though, haven't been able to play as much as I want. I'll have some time to play later, though.

Yeah, I picked up Hunter's..... I've got 2 more monographs waiting for me at the Bazaar, just need to make some gil for that and a new arsenal of weapons. I should look up what Monograph helps for undead/skeleton types, those are good to chain in some places and having an extra bonus to drops would be even cooler.

If you haven't already, try to work your way to some Quickenings on the License board. Good to use on bosses, and you get a nice MP boost for having them....
