I don't think CoH should have gotten game of the year. I'm a hard-core RTS fan and although I only played the demo I didn't like it that much, it might be because I'm not a fan of world war games though..

Oblivion should have gotten game of the year =/

edit: i know ign has been rts starved but -.-

    I'll second that.
Oblivion was the Reader's Choice for Game of the Year.

CoH is good, but not good enough to be the best.

Dark Crusade won best Expansion Pack! I love that game, one of the best RTS's I've played in a looong time (more engrossing than WC3). And Relic scores two with Company of Heroes, haven't played it yet but I hear it's fantastic. And Relic wins best developer! Well, at least IGN recognizes one of my favorite developers of all time.

Well, that's just a matter of preference. But the readers choice does say allot though... couse those are the people who play.. and they can say best which game is best overall..

Further... Nice list.. a lot of good games

I'm sure Zelda would have deserved it, don't know Okami...

But i'm wondering what they are basing there choice on...

Having played both, hell no! LOL, Okami is fantastic!

And I don't have any clue how Oblivion won best story. The only good thing about that story is the fact that you DON'T have to follow it.

And Relic deserved best dev. They have single handedly redefined the real time strategy genre.

I've never played Okami, but I didn't see that one coming. I figured it would be a close race between LoZ and GoW. I'd never even heard of Okami before that list. But hey, the people said what they really thought, and they voted LoZ, so like everything else, it all comes down to opinion.

Okami is the best console RPG during Fall 2006 when everything else sucked.

Its for the PS2, and it honestly pushed the limits of the console and the graphics for any type of game. It had won many awards when it was released.. many Game of the Months from almost all magazines (EGM, etc..)

Its definitely worth trying out if you got a PS2, the next best thing to Zelda... since it plays/flows almost like it. :)

I'm just glad that GTR2 got some respect from IGN. The game really is under appreciated and possibly not even heard of by most people.

I never had a chance to play GTR2, seems interesting, I might just try it out and see why it has gotten good reviews.

I wasn't trying to say that Zelda is better then Okami, Just that when Zelda would have won it wouldn't be a weird choice, because Zelda is a great game, and as i mentioned... I haven't played Okami, so i believe you when jou say it's better then Zelda.. :)

Further on.. Could be that readers choice also doesn't say everything... Because when more people have for instance a PS2 in stead of a Gamecube, More People will vote for their favorite PS2 game, but that doesn't mean the games on the PS2 are better just because they have more votes... So that would be a good thing to consider chosing the game of the year.. Must say i didn't think about that when i said i was wondering what based their choice on.. My Bad

Well I didnt play all of those games.

But I played 2 of them : oblivian and half life ep 1

And dark messiah of might and magic was way better than those two by far.

Stormreach?? 2006 must have been a slow year for MMO's for this game to get picked. My local Fry's Electronics store couldn't get rid of this game from its shelves fast enough, even with instant discounts and free "boots of running" in-game.

Agree with the other categories. Go Oblivion!

I think Company of Heroes deserves that spot without doubt. I've played other great games, sure, but nothing comes close to the sheer exhilaration of playing COH with friends particularly. Had a monster game last night with a friend, by the time my Go7400 locked up from overheating after playing 4 hours straight on my bed, several thousand soldiers had been killed....

I am an Oblivion adoring fan but I will give OKAMI a try since I have a PS2. Never heard of it before though.
