I,m currently considering either Asus g1s or the c90 and i have only the gddr2option for the c90 were i live.

No point bying the c90 if the 8600gt gddr2 is my only choice, and i do want a gamer pc, so i was thinking about going for the g1s if so.

I've heard from Nvidia that the 8800M GTX requires MXM III and above. You might want to look into an Alienware or a Sager if you want to be able to upgrade to newer video cards.

That depends. What's your budget? What kind of games do you want to play and how well do you want to be able to play them? And lastly, how long do you want this notebook to last you?

Aprox 17-2000 dollars, tiberium wars/brothers in arms/timeshift/cod4... I want to be able to play them with as much as possible on the highest while resolution is not an issue. At least 2-3 years

The 8600M GT in the Asus G1S should be able to play those games really well. What people don't realise, though, is that the 8600M GT will only suffice on the higher settings for a few more months, so in a year and a half you'll be playing every game on the lowest settings with that card. I'm trying to turn you away from the Asus G1S, it's a nice notebook, I think you'll be disappointed with the 8600M GT in a year, though.

You might want to look into a Sager, you should be fine with the $1,699 stock configuration which includes a 512MB 8700M GT and MXM III (or IV, not sure, but III should last you a good amount of time). Once you're done with the 8700M GT you'll be able to upgrade the video card to something more powerful. What do you think about this notebook (there's also one with a 8800M GTX for $2,199)?

Alienware also has a similarily configured notebook (512MB 8700M GT) for $1,699 with MXM III, SLI capability (dual cards), and it's .3" thinner than the Sager. It's worth a look, too.

I hear you but my problem is i live in norway. Dont have a clue were to get those here.. I,m not to jumpy about the g1s myself. What i really would like is a 15.4 inch laptop with mxm type 3 possibility, if not now i will wait a couple of months if that is required..

The Alienware m15x is rumored to be well priced, and it has a 15.4" screen, a thinner than most gaming notebooks design, awesome casing, and MXM IV. Even if you don't like Alienware you should check it out. It's coming out q1 of 2008. Personally, I'n getting myself a m17x. If you think about it, you're already spending so much money already for the Asus G1S, why not spend a little more so you'll still be satisfied in 2-3 years? I wouldn't want to see someone spend so much on something they want to keep 2-3 years only to be disappointed with its performance after a while.

The 9x00 series is estimated to hit retailers for the desktops by or around February. I'm banking on Asus releasing a 9600m GT or something for the C90S when it comes about.

yeah i was looking into that earlier today. it looks nice but i just went and configured one of their laptops for fun and the price of simple upgrades was killing me..

Issnt alienware more of the overpriced "prettyboy" types of computers thats costs way to much over their preformance?

That speculation is true and shared. But like how teenagers rice out their Civics and so forth, it's your laptop, do whatever you want. If I were to get an Alienware with a 8800 in it, there is no dout in my mind I would wipe that rig clean and install my own copy of XP and so forth.

You have to be smart configuring a computer from any vendor. RAM and the HD are super easy to self-upgrade and cost a fraction fo what any vendor charges. For example, the 2.16GHz processor offered on the M9750 is the best value as the performance increase for the 2.33GHz processor isn't worth the price. Alienware's notebooks are in a class of it's own. They'll give you the best portable notebook, as they have SLI and dual hard drives. Critics absolutely praise Alienware for their design choices as they put some much detail into building a computer from the great-looking and highly durable casing to the amazingly good cooling system and form factor. It's all in opinion, though, but there's no notebooks on the market comparable to Alienware's notebooks.

Some people don't really care for all the flashy colors or exotic designs on them. It's all down to personal preference on the cosmetic level. I will agree that Alienware makes some very bad ass laptops and I would love to trade my C90S in for one with a 8800 lol. I can't deny that.

Hear you on that one too. I,m sure alienware has real quality. Starting to think this laptop gaming business is to immature and too much hassle. Laptops usable for gaming are too underdeveloped if one dont have enthusiats budgets for it.. Thinking about going for the c90 since it has a great cpu and rather using the extra money i would have on a alienware to get a nice deskop pc since i probly will have saved up some more untill then. and if mxm type 2 next gen gpu,s does arrive then its all for the good. In the meen time the gt8600 512 gddr2 oc,ed will give me the gaming performance i need.

Tnx for the heads up man :)

If you still want a portable gaming machine you might want to wait a few weeks to see the pricing of the new Alienware machines. Leaked pricing showed the m15x starts at $1,399 with a 512MB 8700MGT and a C2D 1.8GHz processor and decently-priced upgrades. That might not be the official price, but I wouldn't doubt Alienware giving a little more bang for the buck than usual this time around.

I,d rather go for a gaming deskop in a year when the 8600 is obselete. Untill then the 8600 will get me by.. I,ll go for a stronger cpu since i also will have greater needs for that as i tire of new games real easy.

btw you wouldnt know if the battery of the c90 is upgradable?

The battery in the c90 is replaceable, but there are no current ones that have a longer life than the one that comes with it

I would say to wait for m15 Alienware...

It starts at $1399 according to the temporary url they put up... the upgrade to 8800gtx was $500.... so for $2000 you can def. get better than G1 G2 w.e...

BUT im not sure what is going to happen anyways...

Yes but at 1400 you have 1GB RAM, 60 or 80GB HDD, Vista basic and almost nothing. It will end up at $3000-3500

    Not really...

It should cost about $2,000-$2,200 ($2,000 max if you choose to upgrade the RAM on your own) max for an Alienware m15x with:
    2.2GHz C2D processor
    8800MGTX
    2GB RAM
    160GB 7200rpm HD

And, Vista Home Premium comes default on all of Alienware's systems.

    Yep hes right

    I configured it at

    2.4ghz
    1gb
    premium
    8800gtx

HDD and RAM I would buy on newegg.comor so and it would come out all to $2200 at most

Where can we configure it now?

Oh well, looks like Dell adjusted his price then. The new XPS 420 actually has a decent price ($3500 less than the exact same H2C)
