Right now i lag in games like mods for CS:S. And from what i know, the mobility hd 3450 should handle them fluently. So i think i need to upgrade my processor but is it worth it?? Around 200$ on ebay.

well i don't think it will make any difference and 200$ is a big amount.my advice would be to buy new laptop with a corei7 and high end video card if you wanna run presnt games perfectly.

Not worth it , Try to "OC" it , I know setfsb doesn't work .. you can try to change the multi through Crystalcpuid .. you should be able to achieve 2.3/2.4 or something

Short answer: no. Your CPU shouldn't be the bottleneck.

With a 3450 in a game like CS:S he's probably CPU limited, but only because of the age of the game. It's old enough that he's frame limited by the CPU not GPU. (Kind of like how AquaMark3 turned into a CPU benchmark, not a GPU benchmark in later years)

A newer laptop is probably the better option, you can resell the old one and upgrade fairly inexpensively.

    Thanks for the replys everyone.
spaghetticheese let me know if u decide to sell that one and i ll see if i still want to buy it
I know its better to buy a new laptop but if i don't sell it my current one at a decent price 550~600, i won't be able to get it. This is my *wanted* laptop right now :D

How can you lag in Counter Strike Source with a T8100 and Ati Radeon 3450? How many fps are you getting? I don't think your CPU is a bottleneck. That game uses only 1 core most of the time. It's a really low requirement game.

I kno! they used to run fine but one day few months ago, the performance just dropped so much. I don't really know how many fps im getting in CS but they are seriously unlplayable at moments. The only game i used frap was on the mod Pirates vs Vikings vs Knights and i get 10fps once in a while. Other times they are still laggy. I tried everything to imprvoe performance. Turn down visuals on vista(aero and other fancy stuff), virus scan ,system restore, factory image restore, Drivers update, OCing, using RM clock to lock the CPU in the highest multiplyer and alot more. And I PLAY LOTS OF MODS and they are all laggy. Even half life 2 lost coast lags. And its just games that i notice drop in performance everything else is perfectly fine. (watching movies, surfing the web, etc.)

That studio15 is a pain ! I gave up on it :D Tried it a while back .. and if i recall correctly it did hit 2.5 or something .. i don't use it for gaming anymore , just for web browsing ..

Just go to the "intel speed step" tab in crystal and increase the multiplier.

It really sounds like you need to reinstall windows. The hardware is clearly not at fault if it used to be adequate.

It worked , but haven't test it properly as i was on the verge of purchasing my Gt725 (which i did :p) If ur about to sell it then leave it as it is .. as from 2.1 to 2.2 you won't see much of a difference.

Exactly. All the physics and players in CS:S are a huge CPU hit. In TF2 for example, before they released the official multi-core rendering option, my Q6600 at 3.6GHz was a bottleneck. Core to core, I was CPU limited with 1.5GHz more on an architecturally superior CPU, so it doesn't surprise me to see such CS:S results.

Try maxing out the graphics as high as possible to reduce CPU strain.

I play CS:S on my T5550 and 9500M GS and compared to my friend's T8300 and 8600M GT (same GPU basically), the differences in CPU are negligible.

I've played plenty of 16-24 person CS:S servers and it's definitely CPU limited, my task manager does not lie.

I'm going to ask something stupidly obvious and you might be tempted to take offense by it, but, have you cleaned out your fans? What temps are you getting on your hardware?

This is exactly what I wanted to ask myself because it was mentioned that games just suddenly began to produce lower FPS.

Windows getting slower might possibly be the issue, but if you keep garbage programs out of it and keep the start-up sequence clean (with basically only the antivirus starting up), an installation of Windows OS (XP, Vista and 7) is likely to run for years as fast as you first installed it.

Check your temperatures and try cleaning out the fans and air vents.
Keep in mind that in order to get to the air vent, you will have to open up the laptop and set aside the fan itself (once you get to the air vent, clean it up properly ... along with the fan).

Yes i have cleaned out the fans. My cpu idle temps are around 50~60 idle and around 70 during gaming. My gpu temps are 60 idle and around 70 in game. This is without gpu oc. With OC, i got around 87temp during gaming.

Just because one core is being utilized at 100% does not mean the CPU is the bottleneck. The task manager cannot tell you one way or the other. CS:S came out in 2004 and was able to be maxed out on the hardware of the time. Even the Intel GMA 4500MHD is enough to play the game at medium settings with good framerates (30+).

You NEED to reinstall windows. Your hardware is clearly capable of playing the game just fine and is not overheating, so it MUST be software related.

Doesn't factory image restore reinstall Windows??
