...how will you buy it?
-
Retail, I was already going retail for BF3. A game that glorious deserves a place on my shelf.

What is Origin? Digital Service that is not Steam? (EADM?)
-
EA's version of Steam.
-
Mr_Mysterious Like...duuuuuude
Lol, you haven't even played it yet!
Btw, to answer the OP's question, I always buy all of my games with a disc, a physical hard copy.
Mr. Mysterious -
I now buy all my game digital unless on clearance at a store. I would say amazon digital download because games that just came out are usually like 10 bucks off or more. Look at Crysis 2 it was like 40 bucks only a couple of weeks out of release.

I know what EADM is I was asking if that is what he was referring to when he gives Origin as a poll choice. -
Mr_Mysterious Like...duuuuuude
Lol tempting, but it's my paranoia acting up.
I don't trust downloads, even from a reputable site.
Mr. Mysterious -
I will always buy my games digitally since I'm not charged the ridiculous 13% HST that Ontario charges in retail stores.
Online is tax-free
Steam > D2D > EADM -
I went with "other" because it depends on who has the best price at the time. I'd really prefer Steam though.
-
Origin.
/thread. -
EADM is now called Origin. so I imagine, yes that is waht he means.
Learn about Origin, Powered by EA. -
That
AND download via EADM (origin). -

Pre-oreder/Buy Retail then register in Origin just in Case Disc goes bad
-
I've already pre-ordered the box version from Amazon because of the 15 bucks off I got from when I bought Homefront. They were also one of the first offering the Limited Edition so it was a no brainer for me.
-
Have fun with gimped versions of the game. Hope you guys have heard that they will have special weapons for different stores that have pre-orders, and you can only get it from those stores in the pre-order period.
Look up Physical Warfare pack.
Wasn't that interested in it to begin with, now I hope it crashes and burns. -
Special weapons have never been game changing.
-

DICE already stated that the unlocks will not imbalance the game.
Nothing will be lost, Just like some weapon in BC2 that have the same stats as other guns -
As KuroLionheart said, a game this EPIC will deserve a place on the shelf, so hard copy it is.
-
"DICE already stated that the unlocks will not imbalance the game" significantly.
Also, I would not be surprised if you will need an Origin account to play this game, regardless of where/how you buy it. EA has already started pulling some titles from Steam, so I wouldn't be surprised if this doesn't release on Steam at all. -

I wouldnt really mind it... if in the first few days a Gun would actually be significantly imbalanced they'll patch it up.
I just dont understand why people QQ BF3 leaving Steam when they can just use Origins to DL it then Create a shortcut from Steam to it.
OF course if EA decides to make BF3 like STEAM where it requires it be open all the time then I'll be a little bit upset but not enough to not buy the game and enjoy it.
On the other Hand if I were already using STEAM then I can see your point. -
It's because it's not +1 in Steam game list.

I have preordered a retail copy as I like having the boxed versions of new games. Makes for quicker installs on my slow internet and I also like having something physical in hand.
Although I would be slightly disappointed if they use Origin as some kind of DRM on retail copies. -
So what's the deal with EA games on Steam now? Crysis 2 no longer there? EA won't publish new titles on Steam any more? I refuse to deal with Origin or whatever EA decides to call their piece of crap digital distribution system, which has always sucked, and I don't see it being any different?
-
usapatriot Notebook Nobel Laureate
Exactly. Some smart idiot inside EA probably came up with the idea for origin and told the executives they could make more money if they used that to sell their games instead of steam. Executives blind to everything but money signs probably approved it and as such we see it happening.
STEAM is the ONLY digital distribution service I use. Origin can suck it. -
Preordering from EA Origin.
Already preordered Mass Effect 3 there too.
For me Origin offers EA games cheaper than the "trusted" competitors and had no errors related to software.
Ant to answer the question regarding Origin account req. for BF3, yes it will be required just like in Bad Company 2.
EA account = Origin. -
Wow that would suck if bf3 was only on origin. Which most likely will happen because I really wanted it on my steam account. And yes you can create a shortcut but having all my games in one place is what I like about steam.
-
That's the thing. At this point, Steam got a huge jump on everyone, and one part of its allure is convenience of having all your games in one place, not to mentioned automatic patching. Start having to buy from multiple publishers again, it kind of defeats the purpose. Strange thing is they just signed a deal with Gog.com to sell their older titles there. Won't be long before they pull that from them too.

Origins does not have to be running for you to play the game you purchased.. besides offline mode which sometimes doesn't work for me steam doesn't allow this.
-
Steam / Go Offline?
-
I'm sure that Origins has to be running, mostly a background service you won't notice.
-
Apparently it's Steam new policy as to why Crysis2 got kicked off ..
News: Crysis 2 Steam removal 'not EA's decision' -
Mechanized Menace Lost in the MYST
Nope not running at all. -
Mechanized Menace Lost in the MYST
I said that besides steam's Go offline mode which doesn't work for me all the time.
"besides offline mode which sometimes doesn't work for me, steam doesn't allow this."
I can run the game's I have in Origins from my games explorer window. WITHOUT Origins running last I checked wasn't possible on steam unless it is running. -
Slim chance EA pulls its games from GOG at least this early into the deal. Maybe down the line when GOG's released all their pre 90s catalog. Then they can just steal the methods they used to make games compatible with the latest Windows and put them up on Origin.
-
You checked background services, too?
Those won't show up in task manager. -
Mechanized Menace Lost in the MYST
yup 10 char -
Origin does not need to run for the downloaded games to run.
So much hate for EA on this thread. D;
They ditched the old EA Download Manager crap from Crysis 1 days, then updates it to run UI with Adobe Air.
Next update aka current version they make the UI render with Qt, adds "social" features and ingame overlay.
Its not all that bad, and they accept all newish keys so you can register a downloadable title for no extra charge. -
Mechanized Menace Lost in the MYST
That's right! IDK why the hate for EA/Origin. I still have and use my steam account, but I do preorder through EA store/Origins for my EA games. -
Might be interested reading for the " ITS EAs FAULT Crysis 2 got kicked out of Steam" crowd.
Spoiler: Blame CryTek! -
So did everyone who bought Crysis 2 through Steam just lose the money they paid for it?
-
No, Crysis 2 is still available to play if you already bought it, they just won't sell it anymore.
-
Maybe DICE and bioware will keep steam around if CryTek is to blame for crysis leaving. I'm getting worried about my Mass Effect 3... It's not that I don't like Origin, I'd just have it all in one place. it's like having some music in songbird, some in winamp, some in Itunes, and having to switch around to play the music you want. that would suck.
-
Mechanized Menace Lost in the MYST
I agree, but you could always just add a non-steam game to steam. -
That's true. I guess I never really thought of that. I also don't like spreading my card number to a lot of websites. I try to limit it to Amazon and steam mostly.
-
People will still buy it anyway...
-
Haha, you took the words outta my mouth.
If it won't be available on Steam I don't know where I'll buy it
-
Yea if you google EADM, you'll see that they changed its name to origin.
Anyways i vote for origin. I live digitally
-
But you still have to install it elsewhere and manage updates yourself.
-
Am I the only one that was under the impression that BF3 would be available on Steam, but Origins would offer exclusive DLC? I think EA would stand to loose too much money by not selling any of their future AAA titles on Steam.
If Battlefield 3 is not available on Steam...
