I was wanting to know if games will still work on my notebook if I have a low graphic card like 128MB NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS? I don't care how the games look I just want to play them. What do you truley need to play pc games like Oblivion and Crisis?
-
That's probably the lowest card I would go for if I wanted to play games.
-
Your card actually meets the publisher's minimum requirements for both games, all you need to do is lower the resolution and settings to the minimum and they should be playable.
-
So I can play games on it? Do you know if I can play Gears of War?
-
Your card can play just about every game released for the PC now, all you have to do is lower the resolution and settings for playable performance since the card isn't very powerful.
-
Thanks! I was feeling like I spent 1500 for nothing but ms word.
-
That's low settings, as in:
640x480
Low textures/ models/ shadows/ lighting/ etc
Short draw distance
No filtering -
You paid 1500 for a computer that can't play games with the graphics turned up? Why not go with a $600 computer instead? For $1500 you should be able to get a very powerful laptop, very capable to playing the latest games.
-
That seems alot for a Inpiron 1720. Did you get any extras and have you tired using Dell coupons to lower the price or trying to configure an Vostro 1700?
-
Crysis is probably a bad idea for anything below Sli
-
Taking your advice is probably a bad idea for anybody. o.0
-
Yea well, unfortunately it's not mine.

Check out the graphics card benchmarks and make your own decisions. -
You know, you CAN customize the graphics options within the game....it's not like everyone is forced to run it at high settings. It ran fine on my 8600Gt at 1280x800 low-some med settings.
-
good idea, more people should try it
-
Running games with low settings and low performance is not playable. It's more irritating than fun. Even if it does run smoothly, you're not having the full game experience, and updates in the future will tend to slow down game performance some more.

I have the 8400 GS and i play Call of duty 4 on it with everything on high 2xAA, depth of field on and it runs at 640x400. Now i know what ur thinkin that its looks rubbish etc but it looks AMAZING! Its very playable and i havent even overlocked it yet which i plan to do. Im surprised at just how good it plays. Ill post some screenshots tommorow.

How about my lappy ?

Your laptop, with the 7800GTX, should be able to run any game on the market at medium settings. I have a 7900GS (slightly more powerful than the 7800GTX, depending on who you ask), not overclocked, and I've been able to play every game I've tried on it so far. Please note that, for some games, you may have to tweak the graphics settings.

what's the diff between GS and GTX? is it based on same architecture?
-
Actually, the 7800GTX is slightly stronger than the 7900GS. It's only about a 5% difference however.
In terms of the naming (I think): GTX > GT > GS
IIRC, they all have the same core architecture, but the GT and GS are of lower quality. It's like a "normal distribution", where the best cores are called GTX, and the weaker cores are called GS and downclocked. They all have the same fundamental architecture however, which is why they are so good at overclocking. -
You know how many threads i created to get an answer, and did'nt get one
Then i go to a whole different thread and ask and get my answer!!!
+1 Rep -
I've read your threads. You have repetedly gotten the answer you ask for.
-
but he didn't get the answer he wanted to hear :]
-
an 8600gt would be about equal to a 7600gt rite?
-
The 8600m GT is quite a bit better than the Go 7600 GT. Thus the number differentiation.
-
uh what?? Dude that is totally false. Don't listen to him.
If I don't care about graphics!
