Just thought that you guys may wanna take a look at this
This is the official release from steam about the recent breach on their forums. Which they later found that extended way beyond their forums. Yayy, just like the psn intrusion.
looks that i might be watching my cc statements more regularly.

Damn hackers. Always destroying things. Why is there no dedicated anti hacker force that track down these clowns?
-
I view it as "good" and "bad" hackers. This was just one of the "bad" hacker groups; something I don't like because I have a steam account also.
-
Thanks for the FYI. Just logged on and changed my password.

What a bunch of a-holes!
-
The US government is too busy using all their extra agents to track down people who host pirate (stream, movies, etc.) websites. New York state has a task force of 100 extra agents assigned to doing this (tracking sites in NY state, kicking down their doors and shutting them down).
Why?
People who pirate do not pay taxes (tax from DVD/BR sales, movie tickets, etc.), therefore the government loses.
When it comes to hacking, if the government didn't lose money, most of those extra agents will be fighting piracy as their primary concern
-
Wow reminds me of Sony accident.
-
Annoying...
Lets hope it turns out not to have compromised the passwords so I can change mine back, I hate keeping 8 different passwords for different things. -
Already took out my credit info, if those hackers haven't taken it already. Once Steam has this under control...free games? jk
-
In all seriousness, I would appreciate some sort of "mea culpa," even if it's a $10 credit to my account that needs to be spent in the next 90 days or something like this.
-
Free games would be nice, pretty sure valve's answer will be free hats though.
It's not really like the sony hack yet though since there aren't any confirmed steam accounts affected, and hopefully it will never reach that point. If it does though, that's when you can expect free stuff. -
It's not like Steam is down and we can't play our games. I don't think Steam will any way compensate for this to every Steam owner except the soon-to-be victims.
-
Well, and Steam doesn't let you delete accounts.
Maybe if I contact them they will let me.
-
This is why I use bank of america's "shopsafe" thing for online purposes; it gives you a perfectly valid credit card number that is tied to your card, but only lasts as long as you want it to and has whatever limit you set (I usually set it to a couple of dollars more than the price of the thing I am buying). This way, if someone gets a hold of the CC number, they can only spend whatever change is left over from the "fake" card and my real CC number is protected.
-
In order to repay me as a customer I demand a free copy of Episode 3! Seriously though, I am kinda thinking about how Valve can repay me. Sony was pretty whimpy, maybe Valve will do something cooler like 3 free games!
-
Sony hack was way worse. Sony didn't encrypt passwords and credit card information was stored along with billing information.
It sounds like everything that was stolen from Valve was stored properly. -
Free copies of skyrim for everyone!!!
one can just wish
-
I didn't find my credit card associated to my account anymore... automatically. Maybe Steam do it? I don't know... anyone had a similar issue?
-
i still have the cc stored on my account
-
I know this is kind of a dumb question, but I've been trying to figure out for 15 minutes on how to change my steam password and I can't figure it out.

But I'm too lazy...Gabe must have fallen asleep after eating 10x too many burritos while guarding the entrance to the STEAM server room.

has anyone even seen or CONFIRMED a single message or news article from Steam?
Because all I've been seeing on the nets is a lot of hoax material (and I wouldn't put it past EA/Origin) -
er... yes... it's everywhere and official
even popped up as a message when i logged into steam...
Steam Hacked, Valve Investigating Possible Credit Card Theft -
Peter Bazooka Notebook Evangelist
Thanks for the heads up but I'm going to calmly ignore this just like I did with the PSN hack, my cc is still the same and nothing ever happened. I'm much more worried about someone stealing my motorcycle or my phone than this because can you do with 25 million cards? It will be expired before they ever get around to my drain my poor bank account.
Edit: Off topic but the filter on this website is too strict it deleted my w't*f and since I just sidestepped the filter I will probably get another warning email...its an acronym for asdkljfgsdlajkhg!!!! sakes do I have to type whiskey tango foxtrot now??? -
it maybe everywhere, but no, it's not official. Where's the public news release by Steam? They have quite a habit of making public posts on their announcements page...
-
Popped up when I logged onto Steam.
-
ROTFL so hard, wait, damn it dude. Another year of HL3 delay
-
How is it not official? It pops up when you log into Steam and the same message is displayed if you try to go to their forum.
On a separate, but possibly related note - Is anyone else having any issues installing/downloading games from Steam at the moment?
I bought the F1 2011/Dirt 3 pack earlier today, Dirt 3 is downloading at a whopping 82kbps and when i try to install F1 2011 it says the Steam Servers are too busy! I know it's not an issue with my internet, as I'm downloading BF3 at 2.2mbps. -
Popped up in the steam news when you log into steam. This has been said at least 3 times before me.
-
killkenny1 Too weird to live, too rare to die.
How do you do that? -
If law enforcement didn't crack down on burglaries, it'd have more resources to divert to cracking down on grand theft auto. But both are crimes, so law enforcement goes after both.
What we've seen here is theft--theft from consumers of media. Piracy is also theft--theft from producers of media. Theft is theft. I want the people who did this to be caught just as much as you do, but I think it would be selfish to suggest that this is the ONLY sort of electronic theft that deserves significant law enforcement attention. -
Dang hackers, if only they put their knowledge to good use, instead of ruining the day for others. (Not saying none of them do not.)
It is like a bunch of children playing Doorbell Ditch, but online, that speaks so much about their own, weakened self-worth.Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
With the money Steam is making, why not form their own anti-hacking task force. Why do people always have to turn to government for all the answers !
-
Seriously man. 100 agents ++ just for New york? That is crazy.
No Credit card information was stolen. The internet was full of drama queens and media and them were saying people was in deep troubles after the PSN intrusion. What happened? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. Noone had any money stolen, the few who reported it, had no evidence to back it up aka trolls. If this was something real, then the hackers would make a fortune selling the CC details to other illegal groups and we would see a crapload of unauthorized transactions. -
It was actually the US government. After they did 9/11, they turned their attention to Steam.
-
True. Forum accounts are separate, you have to sign up for a steam acct and a forum acct. No evidence yet of any attack on CC info. Plus if you have steam guard it is extremely difficult for them to get into your account unless they had your email address and pw too.
-
I`ve had no popup inside Steam explaining this hack BTW. Is there only a region that is affected or something?
EDIT: Nevermind. Had to play a game to see it -
steam forum is now back on line.
-
I saw this, thought it was pretty funny:
9GAG - Day of Steam's Defeat -
I think somebody got tired of waiting for Half Life 2 Episode 3 and had an off day lol
-
LOL. That is funny.
-
People, I do not use Steam a lot, but today for the 1st time I saw a pop up box that was running as a distinct application when I logged into Steam. It was a hardware/software survey. I did not click on it, just ended the task without issues. It had the 'STeam look, white text on black background'.
I did some research http://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey and it appears legit. I wish I could delete posts ... -
i changed a bunch of passwords just to be safe....
-
I changed my login password and verified my payment method. It was PayPal so that's good. Now i'm monitoring PayPal.
-
Does anyone know if under the circumstances, Steam will allow me to delete my account? I contacted them, got no reply. Anyone have the proper email address to have my issues addressed?
-
I changed my password, it's quite a shame that even Steam may be under peril.
If You Have Steam Read This Now!!!!
