If you could eject your speakers and place them anywhere would you?

Simple question for you gamers. While working on my custom computer it occurred to me that it would be rather easy to build integrated speakers that could be ejected and be placed in any arrangement around the system. The speakers will work in or outside of the unit, so I would just like a little input from the community if they think this is a pointless feature or something you might enjoy.

Do you mean that a integrated speaker on a system can be "unattached", and then placed somewhere besides it? But how would the communication work? Will there be wires sticking out of the system? Wireless speakers? A separate line to hook it up into a headphone jack? :p

Although it would be nice to have such a feature.

I would definitely consider it. Right now I have a portable set of Logitech V20s as they don't take up very much space.

Also, when you get your labtop running, please post pictures!

I'm for something similar, being able to rotate them on the edge of the laptop. Many have them aimed forwards on the from (Acers do it a lot), and have them be able to pivot. I wouldn't want them to be apart though, 'cause they might break and the warranty probably wouldn't cover that...

I think it's not that bad of an idea. It's pretty innovative in a way, and is something that hasn't been done before. But however, in the end, what consumers are looking for more nowadays are the "quality" of the speakers, as opposed to innovative ways on where to place them. If the quality of the speakers were loud enough and had range and mixing, then placement outside the system wouldn't be needed as you could hear the sound just as good as where they are put in the laptop.

Right now I think even laptop companies (like HP and Toshiba) are working on innovative ways to improve the speaker quality by incoroprating known audio companies (like harman/kardon, altec lansing, etc.).

It's a good idea, but you might want to find more innovative ways to put a 5.1 system on a notebook. Maybe even trying to put such a system in a 14 or 15 inch notebook, as most notebooks with 5.1 audio are 17".

Unfortunately v1.0 of my project I made a firm decision at this point that anything that will eject from the system will have a small cable no larger than a usb cable. This mainly because the speakers wifi and keyboard are all running off the usb. V 2.0 will utilize a bluetooth interface so I can run everything wireless. Since this is just the prototype model it just wasn't in my budget to spend and extra 100-200$ on bluetooth components that where up to my standards.

Right now I'm running everything I possibly can off the usb ports. Even though the speakers are usb, there will still be audio jacks for headphones and mics.

steelroots7xe The system is not a laptop. Fitting things like a 4870x2 into the sizes your talking about if physically not possible.

If they were wireless, yes. Otherwise, meh. ;) :D

Thank you for your input, constructive criticism is very much appreciated. Perhaps if I just install the blue tooth adapter anyways and then I could have a much larger speaker system while the system is at home.

In fact, why not have all of the speakers placed around your house, and connect them via blue tooth. Now you can have a real laptop entertainment surround sound system. Then just take out two and place them back into 'the compartment'. :D

Edit: But what would be cool, is when you eject the speakers, it'll automatically turn on blue tooth then when you place it back, it gets attached to a little jack port thing that gives it power (and recharges).

I think it's an intuitive idea, but it doesn't seem worth to me to reposition them unless listening to music or watching a movie several feet from my laptop, when having the speakers near me would be beneficial. :)

Yes, and they would connected via bluetooth and with built-in rechargeable batteries.

I wouldn't mind this idea. Got a surround sound in the works?
