If you had to pick one .. what game would you play?

(From my list.. or something else :p)

The short: So, of my list below, if you had to pick just one or two to play deeply.. which would you pick?

I find I have an hour or two a couple times of week to game; this leads to short bursty gameplay, which makes it hard to play games like Civ IV or Galactic Civ 2, though I would love to.... but my usual problem is I play a game for a few hours, and then move onto the next, and never get really deep into a game. And getting deep into one, rather than shallow against many, is where the goods are I would say. (Having a young baby around has made me this way ;) Now I've got a huge pile of games on my notebook here, and am trying to decide.. which should I delve into deeply?

(I know it depends on personal tastes and so on and so forth, but this is just for fun :)

Currently installed (and all running great) are:

    Civ IV
    Galactic Civ 2
    Oblivion
Team Fortress 2 (Orange Box.. Portal/HL2ep2 already done)
ET: Quake Wars (seems really soulless?)
    Call of Duty 4 (awesome!)
Thief 3 (only ever got a few levels in, but really classy)
    Bioshock
    Sins of a Solar Empire
    MAss Effect
Age of Conan (the fact everything is instanced and zoning, makes it very lame.)
LotRO (can't play the Orcs; screw it!)
    Supreme Commander
    Crysis
    Warcraft III
World of Warcraft (waiting for Lich King.. already am 70 and quit 18mo back)

(As a hardcore retro afficiando, I'm not even going to list interactive fiction, adventure games, old strategy games and so on; I'll keep that perversion to myself ;)

AoC, WoW, LotRO are all cancelled :p

AoC I did the first month and quit; if they want to be considered serious PVP, they need to ditch the lame-ass zoning and instance-switchign by making big fat world; things like zooming in while in chat is lame since you get ganked, and so on.

LotRO .. just a bad WoW clone; WoW has its flaws, but atLotRO is just more of the same.

Maybe Warhammer Online will work for PVPers...

You cant really Dive into call of duty 4 deeply.. its like click play campaign..shortly thereafter...multiplayer!

I'd say Mass Effect or Oblivion. Mass Effect first because the story is only 20 hours and those are some deeply satisfying hours.
Oblivion is also worth diving into because the game world is so large and the sheer number of quests, unique characters, items, dungeons and landscapes you discover is worth the time. And thats if you decide not to follow the plot line.

It's sad how I've played almost all the games on that list... but I'd go with CoD4

Call of Duty 4 if you like multiplayer, but Oblivion if you enjoy a fantastic story/atmosphere.

    Oblivion for single player depth.
I love CoD4 but I don't do it for its depth, its more of a pick up and play affair for me. I am, however, hardcore about warcraft 3. Its a bit old, but theres still people playing, and ranks pretty high on the xfire list of most played games. If you like rts, thats a really good one to get into. But I think company of heroes is slightly more strategic and less base building.

    Cod4

PLay it, get really good, join a clan, compete and have fun for atleat 2 more yrs. Now that Promod is taking over with the Pam4, the competition will get better and there will be more balance with weapons, ie 74U being nerfed. The game is only getting better and will be around for quite sometime.

    CoD 4 easily.

Age of Conan is such a disappointment. If I wanted a massively instanced game with PVP I'd play Guild Wars and enjoy the better balance, fewer bugs and lack of monthly fees.

I wouldn't say it's better in graphics at all. Technical achievements be damned, it looks like damn near every other sci-fi FPS from the past ten years. Team Fortress 2 has amazing art design that's unlike any other FPS out right now.

I would suggest COD4 because it a beautiful game with missions. And when you don't have the time, just play a quick MP match; best of both worlds :)
