Image Quality

Hey guys, I was wondering, I noticed in the Nvidia Display, you can choose different image quality settings. Do these drastically affect performance, if let's say I put the image settings to High Quality. What if I put it to High Performance, would the image look horrendous. What does this feature do any way, add AA or AF?

 

I am not very sure but I thought that setting the Image to High Quality indeed adds AA, AF and IQ. It also changes the value's of Buffering etc. But like I said I am not very sure.

The best answer is probably "try it"
Can't hurt, and then you'll get to see first-hand *exactly* how much difference it makes on both image quality and performance.

The longer, and less accurate answer is "yes, it can drastically affect performance"
High image quality adds stuff like antialiasing, better anisotropic filtering, as well as a bunch of other features. (Look around the NV control panel and note down all the options that can improve image quality. They're the ones that get enabled)

 

Oh, all right. I guess I will just leave at it's deafults.

 

Well, like Jalf said you could always try it. If it slows things down too much or doesn't look better to you, you can always restore the settings to default.

 

Well, I just tried it, and it seems there is no difference to me between wuality, and high quality. But if I put it on High Performance, I can see a little difference it seems, but putting it at that setting enables me to bump up my res in Prey, from 800x600 to 1024x768, and it looks really good, but there is a couple framerate hitches.

 

Unfortunately there are always going to be compromises.

 

It never seems to have any difference for me. Then again, its always set at maximum quality, but I don't notice any quality OR speed difference when I change it.

 

Yeah me neither, I guess Ill just leave it at deafults.

 

This is my Aquamark and 3Dmark05 scores for the Nvidia image quality option

High Performance - ~44250

So there is a difference in performance

 

Hmm, it seems like there i a difference, but it wouldn't really be noticeable. Maybe 100 3dmarks, and I don't really see a difference in image wuality. I might just keep it at high performance.

 

You wouldn't be able to tell the difference in performance with that small a change in synthetic benchmarks.
