I need to buy a laptop for college, and I was wondering whether I should wait until right before I leave for college. Are there any significant improvements or new features being released between now and August that I should wait for, or should I buy it now?

well, considering that you are posting in the gaming forum, i would assume that gaming is one of the tasks you plan on partaking in the future. currently, there are almost no notebooks with dx10 gpus in the hands of consumers. asus just recently began releasing their dx10 notebooks, but there is only a small initial shipment. there will be more choices for gaming notebooks probably later in the summer as dx10 gpus become more readily available for manufacturers to install.

once dx10 cards become widely available in laptops (say 1 month max), no you won't see much of a change from then to September.

Yes, do wait until late June, early July before you make your purchase.

There will be no real "new" graphics cards released that haven't already been announced (Nvidia and ATI have already announced their DX10 mobile cards; Nvidia already has released theirs, ATI is expected to do so in July). However, there will be more notebooks that support these DX10 graphics cards as well as the new Intel Santa Rosa platform.
If you can wait, then wait. It takes several months for most companies to integrate new technology into their older laptops and/or develop a whole new line of laptops. You'll have more options to choose from in July or August than you will now.
Improvements over the summer?
