I have a dell vostro 1500 with a 1.6 Core 2 Duo processor and a 8400GS graphics card. CS:S runs fine at 800X600 resolution at about 50-60 fps. I was wondering if there were any console commands that I could enter to make it better...so that I could possible up the resolution.

You can try running it at a lower dx level, like 8.1 or so.

This will make it run better, but take off some eye candy.

50-60 is enough. You can't notice anything after 30 so just set it to high =P

cs source is not GPU bottlenecked, its CPU limited, just to give you an idea, i run it on an x3100 which is integrated graphics and it maxes out my CPU and there is no diff between low and med settings which means that its CPU bottlenecked, upgrade your cpu to something like 2.2 and you'd see a diff, but probably not worth it

shut up element and learn some facts.

You ideally want it at around 75 or whatever you monitor refresh rate is. The biggest FPS killers are the following commands. Put these 3 commands in your autoexec or your console ingame, then restart. You should see more FPS now

You need more than 30FPS in a game because it is a moving image. If the image is not moving you only need 23 FPS.

Faster the game is the more FPS needed to keep a smooth expierence.

"r_3dsky 0" is now considered a "Cheat" and has been disabled.

The best performance booster by far is "mat_dxlevel 70"

Little harsh there aren't we? Laptop monitor refresh rates are 60 Hz. He's already getting 50-60 FPS...

If the image is not moving, you don't need a FPS. If it is moving, 24+ is needed for a smooth image. The problem is, most people calculate average FPS, and an average FPS of 24 is not enough, as any dips below that point will cause stuttering - certain death in CS:S.
