Please don't ask me to fillout the F.A.Q =) I am simply trying to determine if the upgrade is worth it in terms of gaming or if i should hold off.

System A (My currently owned system)

Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT 256MB ( DDR 2 VERSION)
    RAM: 2.0GB DDR2 SDRAM @667 MHz (2 x 1GB)
    Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo T7300 (2.0 GHz/4MB L2 Cache)

System B (System i am thinking of buying)

NVIDIA GeForce 9650M GT 1024 MB DDR2 VRAM (DDR2 VERSION)
    Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 2.4G
    4GB DDR2 @ 800 mhz

Will i notice a Substantial increase in performance between these two laptops playing games?

There will be... but what is the price? You can get some cheap Asus (less than $1000) with the 8800GS... which is more powerful.

    8600 gt 475/950/400
    9650 gt 550/1325/400

You probably won't notice more than 15% difference. If you want a real upgrade, get a 3850, 9800 gs, or better.

Loza Not looking for other suggestions thanks. Have filled out a F.A.Q done research yada yada in know the model your going to suggest and it's WAY too big WAY too hot and it's sold by a shody store. Thanks for your kind intent but kindly stick to the original question it would be alot more helpful =)

Roughly % wise what kind of increase could i expect?

only an increase of 5-8% gaming performance really.

might not be worth it since the videocards are still mid-range (128-bit).

if you were going to a high-end card (256-bit), like Nvidia 8800M/9800M or ATI 38xx/48xx.... then it would be worth it.... about two times the performance over the mid-range cards.

Personally I wouldn't bother. If you are going to upgrade, you might as well go all out if you can. I don't think you will notice a very significant increase in gaming performance, particularly since you are still using DDR2 RAM for the GPU.

Everything depends on your budget and I think you are better of waiting until you can afford to go for a 9800M GS or a GTX260M.

You will see about 20% increase in performance from the GPU, and the CPU depends on the game.

I don't think it is worth enough to upgrade unless the cost of upgrading is very low.

There are other more powerful laptops like Gateway FX series, or the Asus G50vt series, which are cheap and powerful.

Particularly, there are some gateways refurbished going for about 700-800dlrs, and the G50vt-X5 from Best buy for 899dlrs. They include 9800m GPUs which are much more powerful than 8600m GT and 9650m GT

Again...not looking for suggestions of other models guys. 15+ inch laptops are FAR too large for my purposes and would serve me 100% useless regaurdless I'll just wait till 14 inches and less provide a better upgrade

Then check out 14 inch Asus N81vp-C1, which pack an Ati HD4650 card that is quite powerful for mid range, and should provide at least 50% performance increase. Or perhaps much more considering it scores on the 6k area in 3dmark where the 8600GT DDR2 scores around 3600.

If your only choice for upgrade is a 9650m GT and nothing else, then no, don't upgrade yet.

    What? Not even 10%.

Just overclock your 8600M. You'll be wasting money with the upgrade.

With the known hardware failures of the 8600 I don't care OC it heh. In fact the warranty runs out in 5 days which is why i am looking around.

a huge batch of 8600M GT's had overheating issues.

if you are one of the lucky ones that didnt get one of these faulty cards, then feel relieved that you do not have to send it in hoping to not get another faulty card (which happened to a number of people)

hopefully you are Monitoring your temps to make sure your card is never in dangerous temps.
