Hey everyone, I finally got rivatuner working the way I want it to. Ive played with the mem o/c before and have only got 760ish. I just tried mem w/o core and was able to pull off a 999mhz screeny! (945 stable)..... The driver is 175.75. I tried 1004mhz but i couldnt get a screeny. AtiTool isnt working so this is the closest I can get to a GHZ

w/o the core o/ced they are around 95c. Im not too worried. I still have a warranty on this thing.

That 50% o/c was probably on the core. Thats no biggie. This is the highest ram clock ive seen/ heard about

Have you been able to run any benchmarks or games to check for stability with the card oc'ed to this extent?

At 95c, a slight increase in ambient temperature (hot day, heating on for too long, etc.) could push it over the edge, and cause it to permanently fail!

Its hitting over 100c. If I remember correctly these things should be able to go to 130c~. Now im having a problem keeping it overclocked in 3dmark. It keeps on scaling down

hahah chill out on the OC. just because it can get to 130c doesn't mean you should push it. i can take a few punches in the jaw but that doesn't mean i'm going to fight with my hands down.

Ya know. If I was OC'ing and 3dmark was scalling it down, that would be a sure sign of something....

The GPU and CPU are actually quite resilient to heat buildup... but the laptop has many parts very close together and heat builds up for all of them.

    As mentioned before...
95-100 is bordering on "too hot"-ville and a slight variation or lack of cleaning your vents might cause your GPU or something else in your laptop to give out.

Your laptop might be fine for a little while this way as long as you take good care of it, but quite frankly a slight downclock to drop you under 90C average won't cost you much or possibly anything in performance and will be a great deal more resilient to damage.

I am a big fan of overclocking... but I gotta say I think you are pushing the heat envelope. This is where laptops give out and I think it only fair to join my brethren here in warning you.

Its your laptop and your call... but either a downclock or a laptop cooler would be very wise IMHO.

Well ive heard that you dont want you temperature to go over 85c. Especially on a hot day the heat could really mess your card up :/

Try to beat : 7134 and that's just at : 650(Core)/475(MEM) temp never go higher then 78 while gaming and yes i've gamed for a couple hour at that setting without any prob... !

that's what i got with my 8400M GS

another thing ... i don't think your warranty will cover your O/C vid card ;)

Dude your idiot, if your manufacturer finds out that your laptop died because of over clocking your not covered under warranty. With the rate that your going at you will overcook your laptop and I will have great pleasure laughing at you.

For example here is Dells (as an example) terms and warranty conditions for New Zealand (the American ones will be highly similar):

Those two bold words say it all, that thing pops because of over clocking you're on your own. Note that I could go through most major laptop manufacturers legal agreements and find that.

Isn't it true the higher the speed in an over clock doesnt always mean better performance. Like there is a point that if you go beyond it in speed, you will actually get worse performance and you need to benchmark and see where that point is that you get the best results.

What laptop is this being oc'd?

Its true the higher the clock the better performance.. the only reason youll get worse performance is when your gpu is overheating causing it to downclock

130 is the maximum temperature it support is the emergency shutdown temp, it'll throttle down way before reaching that...

If ur not so dumb to leave traceable evidence, e.g. an overclocking tool with ur overclocking profile on the computer once u send it in, they cant rly prove that the gpu got fried coz of an overclock and not just because the cooling system had a malfunction.

How can i turn off the throttling and protection measures of the driver? There are a alot of options in Rivatuners Power user tab, but i dont know which ones are the important ones.
Atm im not bluescreening, but just getting an Direct3D error when i run 3dmark with slightly higher clocks. Im pretty sure thats because of of the driver messing around and not because the gfx card is actually melting.

LOL DUDE. U can easily tell he didnt use 06. Notice how the whole top part is cut off leaving only his points...

That score with an 8400M GS IS IMPOSSIBLE.

My card pushed to the limit on rivatuner is only at 3900~ 1280x800 native res.

Unless u ran it at like 600x400 LOL then thats believable..

How did u go past what is on rivatuner tho ...did u like update your BIOS?

wow that was fun...... I appreciate the single nice post in this thread. Im used to a different type of forum I guess..... Ive been posting on XtremeSystems for 5 or so years and stuff like this isnt frowned upon at all. I have built and sold many phase change systems, cascades included (lowest was -149f) so this is all just seeing what i can do with my lappy.
    onto business...........

Those were in 3dmark05. Here is the link http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm05=4297134

I have tried forcing constant performance mode in riva tuner but that didnt work.

Also thats without the core overclocked and a dirty windows install. The video card averages around 95c+ under load so either my sensor is off or dell screwed up with the cooling. only problem with me sending it back to them is the fact that I got myself some crazy ram. i may see what I can do myself :-D
