Hey guys, I recently ordered an Inspiron 1720 and I wanted to ask a few questions when it comes to performance.

I guess I should throw the specs in first:

-Intel core 2 duo 2.0 gigz
-2 gigs of ram 667 mhz
    -256mb 8600m GT

I just wanted to know how this would handle games like The Witcher...and even if I felt like it...Crysis?

I would probably run these are 1280x800, I was told by a friend that i'd get good frames at medium on the witcher, and could maybe push high.

Also games like Company of Heroes, EQ2, and TF2.

Thanks guys, can't wait for my Laptop to arrive, it'll come before the new semester starts! :)

You'd be on dead low and be struggling for a consistant frame rate on both. Insipiron uses the DDR2 version of the 8600m GT. that resolution is pushing it.

If I lower the rez, is there any way to get to medium? I could always fool around with the settings...lower certain things raise certain things.

I thought I could run Witcher at medium atleast.

yes lower the res and you should be ok with low-mediumish settings.

I'm actually playing the Witcher demo with everything maxed out on a 1280 widescreen resolution, only problems I might have in the future are areas which are heavily populated (swamp and trade quarter are known frame rate killers).
