Install the latest ATI Graphics Driver without installing CCC? Mobility Radeon HD 4650

Hi, I have a laptop with Mobility Radeon HD 4650 graphics card.

I have in the past been able to use the mobility modder to install the driver, but the process is not working with the new 10.8 graphics drivers.

Even worse, this is the page ATI is showing me...

There doesn't appear to be an option to install just the graphics driver by itself.

My only options are to either install the full Catalyst Software Suite or the Catalyst Control Center. I feel that both programs are obnoxiously bloated and would prefer to just install the driver itself if possible.

Does anyone have any solutions? Would my gaming suffer significantly if I just use the default 4650 driver that Windows 7 is using?

 

The easiest way is to install everything (full CCC) and then disable startup items that make it run with windows- that's what I've done.
I rarely use CCC and I don't see a reason to add another process to startup.
Another option would be not to check it when you choose what to install- however at present I can't verify it's possible. If I re-run an installer and choose "install" I can't uncheck CCC but possibly due to the fact that it's already installed on my system.
Default windows driver is not a good idea for gaming- my recommendation is to install all and remove it from startup. All you lose is about 70MB of disc space.

 

honestly it's not a good idea to uninstall ccc as the drivers sometimes comes with randoom setting the best way would be as downloads said install every thing cheq that the 3d setting are in order and disable ccc from startup

and honestly the ccc is not an issue when you let it in the background it does not eat much ram and does absolutly nothing bad

 

Install the driver via "Device Manager".
Run the exe to uncompress the files, but don't install!
On C: you will see a folder ATI or AMD or something similar. Point to this folder in the "Driver Update" menu of the graphics card.

Yeah- that's another option. For current drivers it would be:
C:\ATI\Support\10-8_mobility_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc\Packages\Drivers\Display

but I'd still install CCC and disable it- just to be safe. If you don't it's rather hard to change anything as granyte already pointed out.

 

I showed this way because the starter of this thread asked for one.
Microsoft delivers the driver also without CC. Furthermore CC needs a specific version of C++ runtime and installs it too.
Until today I had no problem running the driver without CC.

I got the driver from the link and manually installed it thru Device Manager. It works like a charm.
