    Hi -

I'm planning on getting a new laptop and had a quick question on gaming. Would integrated graphics (GMA950) be fine for games such as SW Battlefronts I & II, Republic commando, and SW Lego II? These are probably the only games i might play that are relatively new.

    Thanks

    Jeff

Its very doubtful. Its possible that you could get by playing SW lego but intergated probalbly won't cut it for SW BF I and II. I would recomend at least getting a lower end gfx card such as the ATI radeon x1400 or a comparable model. If you have the extra money then i suggest getting the best gfx card and memory you can afford. I have SW BF II and SW lego II and they play just fine on all my computers with the lowest end gfx card being an x1400.

    hope this helps

i'm almost positive a 950 would not play anything but the lego game. i doubt the performance would be much better with 200M integrated either...you really need a low end discrete card at least

    Thanks everyone -

It actually cuts down my choices as there aren't a whole lot of 12-14" laptops with dedicated graphics, at least not in the price range i would be looking at.

    thanks

If it is not on your list already, one of the least expensive 12-13inch models with a graphics card that has good build quality is the Asus W7J that you might want to check out. It is about $1500.

Compal HGL-30 is a great 14" machine with a Go7600... a very good card. It starts a $1066 at www.powernotebooks.com. The Dell XPS M1210 has a Go7400 in a 12", but it can become a bit pricey. Check the Dell Outlet and you may get a pretty good deal. But the Compal will still be a better deal.

Um, I can play Far Cry, HL2 and Doom 3 on the X200m... but the GMA950 is quite less powerful, so... it's possible it wouldn't do.

i agree i mean i have been able to play the F.E.A.R. multiplayer on my 200M and you can even look on youtube there are people playing F.E.A.R. on their 200m so i think a 200M could play it.

    thanks everyone -

I was looking at the m1210 but after configuring it, it came to $1400 which is too much for me (eliminates asus as well). The compal hgl-30 looks just right. The only other one i have seen is the toshiba m100 and after configuring it, it comes close to the same price as the compal but w/ only 128mb x1400 card. The only thing going for the toshiba right now is that i have tried out the m105 in stores and liked it (can't try out the compal).

thanks again everyone for your help/advice,

    jeff

You should post on the What notebook to buy thread and fill the FAQ so more people see it and help you.

Regarding your original question, I am almost positive the GMA series run Star Wars Battlefront - just really crappily, and I would be willing to bet it'll just end up being a frustrating experience.

The Compal HGL30 sounds like a good fit for you. It would definitely give you more gaming flexibility than an integrated graphics solution would and at a great price. too.
