Convince me why I would need more than this for a video card?

    I edit HD video......
    I DJ
I would like to run HDMI out to a 1080p T.V.
I am a power user who does MINIMAL gaming
    I will run Windows 7

Aero I heard is barely supported by this 4500mhd w/ vpro...this is a little cause for concern.

I've had a notebook with integrated graphics now for 2 notebooks....and this has worked for me so far.

I would say I like to play games on my notebook, but I don't. I'd rather use my desktop. If I did...it would be like quake 3 and games that have had enough time to become playable on an integrated graphics card.

So the point of this thread is...

If you really convinced you won't ever do gaming on your notebook with the 4500 then there's no need to get an integrated card unless you have Windows 7 and would like hardware-enabled playback support for H264 videos.

Aero isn't barely supported by 4500MHD. It runs it just fine. GMA 950 actually runs Aero fine.

hardware enabled playback support for h264............

word, that might be of concern.

The point of this thread is to try and shed light to situations where I might need more than the 4500mhd

Get an integrated graphics card and regret it for life is my motto.

Hell, not even the Macs have integrated graphics cards....and that's saying a LOT.

Actually, the Macbook series' 9400M GT is an integrated graphics card, it's just made by nVidia rather than Intel. It's the optional 9600M GT that's dedicated.

    Its 9400M + 9600M GT... Get a laptop with at least 9400M or ATI 4220... don't get the 4500MHD...

No, some macs only have the intergrated 9400M, not all have the switchable gfx.

Correct. They all have the 9400M integrated card, and getting the 9600M dedicated card on top of that is optional.

Actually, the 4500MHD is capable of H.264 and VC1 hardware decoding - anything earlier isn't, though.
Try Media Player Classic Home Cinema.

Heat and noise is of concern. I went against the discrete graphics. Also power efficiency...I am sure Intel makes some of the most efficient notebook graphics cards....

Cash is also a bigger concern then heat and noise......

    Asus U80a now! Wooooooo

the 4500MHD is a very capable integrated card. you can have lots of fun with it playing games 3 years old, and even some new games on minimum settings.

in short, its a great option for the casual gaming&multimedia.

one thing to note however, is that applications (and even maybe the next version of windows) might start taking advantage of GPU acceleration, for example nVidia CUDA, so it might be a good idea to go with something like the nvidia 105M.

If you do not play modern 3D games, the 4500 is all you need. CPUs and GPUs will be coming closer together at some point so some applications (e.g. flash) might start making use of GPUs, but for the next couple of years, this is an "if and when and maybe" kind of thing and the 4500 will probably be supported as well.

flash already makes use of the gpu 10.1 is available as a beta, great for 1080p youtube videos.

there is also a beta nvidia driver that supports it
