Clarkdale is desktop. Clarksfield is mobile.

Clarksfield are Quads and 45nm without the IGP on die.

Are you even see the link
In this process, they have decided to skip production of 45-nanometer Havendale CPUs and will go directly to 32nm Clarkdale because development for the chips is going smoothly – as reported by Digitimes. Clarksfield (mobile) will have the Intel Core i7 name.

I think I've read that i7 performance is about 12% better than than core 2 (clock for clock). It's not much different in games but fairly improved in encoding/decompressing.

I'm wondering if I should hold off on those new Asus machines and wait for winter.

Havendale and Auburndale were canceled back in like February. They're the dual-core version of Lynnfield which wasn't canceled and Clarksfield is the mobile version of Lynnfield. 45-nm Quads with no IGP.

Yeah. I saw this earlier. And as mentioned already, Clarkdale is a desktop chip. The only thing good about this for notebook users is that development for Nehalem/Westmere is moving along very smoothly and mobile chips could also be released ahead of schedule if we're lucky.

But tbh, the only thing I really want out of Intel is a dual-core Clarksfield (or Arrandale without the IGP - whichever way you want to see it). Mainly because every notebook under 15-17" would be stuck with Intel graphics or need an SLI configuration to get decent gpu performance.

20% but, these Core i7/i5's will feature integrated PCI-E so they'll fare a bit better on high resolution games and slightly worse off in other apps.

The secret weapon to these Nehalem-derivative CPUs will be Turbo Mode.

Of course they do. But in the mobile sector it was always Intel competing by itself. What I am saying is the thing that will differentiate Calpella from Core 2 based platforms will be Turbo Mode. It'll be nothing like the desktop i7's and will play a very important factor.

Bloomfield, which is the Core i7 9xx series CPUs, are workstation CPUs that have been trickled down to high end desktops. The more mainstream platforms will be much more optimized in respect with their target market and will be seen in a MUCH better light.

You've got plenty of time if you're interested in a Quad as the 45-nm 55w Clarksfield quads are easily worth skipping and they're not getting a die shrink or a built in IGP until after Q2/Q3 of 2010...then figure 2-4 months after that before they actually become available for purchase.

Maybe a mobile version of the Phenom could come in handy for AMD.
