My current laptop is running the intel gma 3100(not x3100) integrated graphics and i was wondering if it would be able to play fps's like Call of Duty 1, Bf2/bf2142, cod4 perhaps? I know these integrated graphics aren't as bad as everyone says because I have Halo 1 up and running fine.

btw, i'm running vista 32 on my laptop if that matters

It might run Call of Duty 1 , but not the others. Intel's GMA chips are by no means designed for gaming. Any games that they do run will have to be older generation using simpler effects.

From what I've heard, COD4 is just beyond the reach of the x3100. At the lowest settings I've heard that best case scenario people got around 20fps in a simple area. The newest game that I've been able to get playable is Company of Heroes. Highly recommend it!

Mr._Kubelwagen More machine now than man
Yeah, you can run COD1 fine, but the others you suggested are going to struggle.
-
there is a difference between "able to run" and "able to play," almost any video card can run a game, but integrated graphics will always struggle with newer games and they wont really be "playable"

Isn't GMA 3100 a desktop chipset? And x3100 the mobile one?
-
Gotta be x3100 if it is a laptop, I would think. Search this forum--there is already a ton of chatter and some good info about what the x3100 can and can't do. COD1 would probably work fine. COD4 would probably chuckle if you attempted to run it on a x3100.

The X3100 can run BF2/BF2142 on LOW settings, my friend has the same card in his laptop and all he plays are those 2 games.
-
whats the difference in performance between the 3100 and x3100? I thought I had teh 3100 but maybe I do have the x3100.

There is nothing called only the 3100. Thre is only x3100

GMA 3100
The G31, G33, Q33 and Q35 chipsets use the GMA 3100, which is DX9 capable. The 3D core is very similar to the older GMA 3000, including the lack of hardware accelerated vertex shaders. However, the RAMDAC is reduced to 350MHz, and the DVO ports were reduced to 225Mpixel/s.

I think Satyrion meant to say there is no 3100 for laptops.
And to mix up the soup a bit more, ATI has the V3100 card for laptops.
Well, actually it's called Mobility FireGL V3100 and it's quite rare professional card, so no worries.
