I have a HP 5310m that seems to get overly hot when playing Torchlight and Grid Defense.

I've recorded temps upwards of 98C (twice) with my P9300. It probably averages around 80C.

    Wow, that's HOT.

This may be a simple question, but are you playing with your vents on your laptop obstructed (ie. in bed, on your lap, etc)? Also try some compressed air in your vents too. Sometimes dust collects and causes temps to rise.

It sits on the left side of my desk with no obstructions. The left side of the HP has vents.

I've already ran compressed air through there, but it has yet to not jump up to the 80s-90s while gaming.

How long have you had it? If under warranty I would send it in, really. That's dangerously hot. So either it will fail from the heat, or get it corrected now to prevent that. Otherwise, it's time to open it up and trying to reseat with your own thermal paste. That's a pain in the butt in a laptop, but doable.

Good deal. So you can return it. Considering it's a Dell, they're pretty good about cross shipment of computers in the first 30 days, so you don't go without one. You might as well try that.
