Do you plan to play "light" games like WoW, Source games(CS,HL2) ect or watch HD videos/movies?

If so then the Quadro 140m will probably be a better choice.

I am undergoing the same dilemma with the T61...I'm not really a gamer..but I watch divx movies all the time from torrent sites....how much of a performance difference is there between the 2 graphic cards? Thank you

I had to make the same choice.

I went the Nvidia route and here is why:

    1) I plan to play games, but I am not a hardcore gamer.
    2) The Nvidia is a discrete card, so hopefully I can pull it out and put something else in if I want to ( I am making another post regarding that, because I am really not sure )
    3) As a brand all of my Nvidia products have lasted the lifetime of the system, with no problems
    4) Dedicated memory - the Quadro has 128 ( T61, 256 in the T61p ), it will share an additional 128MB if needed. If I am not mistake the Intel is all shared. This alone is going to create a huge advantage for the Quadro.

The integrated cards just scare me, if something goes wrong........ your entire board is going to have to be worked on vs. just replacing a card.

In terms of benchmarks, the Quadro seems to perform at double that of the integrated, and some put it closer to triple. In real world performance I would expect about double.

I went with the Quadro, I want to get it and run some tests myself to see if my investment was worth it. But seeing as the ship date is 9-1-2007... I will be waiting......

the video card will not affect video playback performance for divx movies. I have intel graphics and it does the job perfectly.

Did you also know that having discrete will give you much less battery life?

Of course power has its price. But I plan on running a dual head system and will likely be near power most of the time.

For me the laptop is more of a mobile (desktop) computer than a traditional laptop. And generally AC power is easy to come by. I also bought the 9 cell battery, it all depends on how you plan to use it. I just feel the x3100 is not a very future proof investment, it is weak now, so it will be very weak in the future. The Quadro is not exceptionally strong now, but it is designed to couple with the future better then the X3100.
