Hello there, this is my first post around here, so here i am introducing myself :) I am planning on getting a laptop for college but cutting to the chase, i found out about the new Gateway laptop, the C-140X. its a convertible 14" that has the option of the X3100 (128MB) or the X2300 HD 256MB (128MB GDDR3 Dedicated Memory with up to 256MB using HyperMemory™ Technology).

the X2300 HD costs $100 more but i saw that it was a pretty bad card game wise. i dont plan on gaming too much but i was wondering what the advantages of the X2300 HD over the X3100 was. i know the X3100 is integrated and might sap resources from the processor but i was wondering if the X2300 would be worth $100 more. i dont game too much, maybe some CS:source and such. I hope to play starcraft 2 whenever it comes out and maybe UT2007 and Team fortress 2.

i couldnt find any comparisons about the X3100 and X2300, so i made this thread. Thanks

It sounds like the games you want to play are rather graphically intense. You may want to invest some more into a better card. But either way, the 2300 (which is NOT DX10 compatible) will smoke the X3100.

You'll want ATI X2600 or NVIDIA 8600 or better for UT2007 and StarCraft 2 to be enjoyable.

alright, thanks for the input guys. i guess ill have to pass on those games then. I thought i was going to choose between the Thinkpad T61 and the new Gateway C-140X but Gateway changed their prices and the price just skyrockets.

sorry to change the topic, but does anyone know if lenovo/gateway offer education discounts? i was planning on calling them tomorrow but hey, u guys are here lol.

    thanks again

LOL, my 8400GS struggles with orange box games, i doubt your 965 can run on "high" unless your running at 640x480.
