Hi,
i have an HP DV1000 model laptop running a a first generation Intel Core Duo processor and an intel GMA 950 video card. I recently bought a Samsung T220 (22"inch 1680x1050) and I wanted to use it as the main screen via VGA cable (analog).
- I am experiencing 2%-10% LCD noise whenever I am using 1690x1050 resolution
- no LCD noise when the resolution is at 1400x1050 and below.
Q.1) Is this normal because it uses an analog cable? because the GMA950 is supposed to support higher resolutions.
------ If not, what might be the cause of the noise?
note:
- Whenever I start using the laptop + LCD combination; the noise level shows at 10% which is very harsh on the eyes. After awhile (15min) the noise goes down to 2%... but you can still see it if you focus on one spot....
Thanks.

Have you tried using a different cable? Or maybe try using the same monitor and cable with a different computer since it could be something wrong with your vga out?
Another problem could be if the external monitor's native refresh rate is 75hz (many of them are) and you have the output set at 60hz (common refresh rate for laptop screens) it would definitely look odd. -
To my knowledge VGA tends to have problems when running on very high resoultions. Try using DVI if you can.

To me it sounds like its a hardware problem though the GMA950 should support 2048x1536 at 75 Hz maximum resolution.
When you run the external moniter, are you already running the Laptop's LCD? If so, what resolution does it run at? The GMA950 is effectivily able to process 3145728 pixels. If you were running two screens with 1680x1050 that would be 3465000, and thus would explain the issue. -
Hi Thanks for the reply guys; here are the answers:

Right now, it took roughly 30 minutes for the noise to lower down to a barely noticeable 1%. It is now comfortable to work in this screen; it is just a hassle to wait 30min+ for it to be usable.
Thanks guys for your inputs. Will post results soon.
